The Duke Ellington and Fats Domino!

All we need is Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie and we've got the whole bloody set! <yikes>

As mentioned before, this is a no brainer! He ain't gonna be on big wages, no fee was involved and he will not start as PJ has already stated that CW and Chops will be main pairing!!! If CW is sold then obviously PJ would make an offer for someone like Maynard or improve offer for Sharp. Ellington has not been brought here to start but as cover, unless of course he performs as he did before under PJ, then we have great competion for places.
I for one welcome the guy and wish him all the best.
Now time to bolster the midfield and defence, 5 more signings likely, 'watch this space' as the mighty JWM says!!!

Westlake - SPOT ON. He was contracted to Watford for 4 long years. He was a dead loss.

Year 1 - started poorly, then got worse.
Year 2 - Season long loan to Derby (fee received £1.5m with option to sign for £0m).
Year 3 - Aug 09, sometimes he made the bench.
Year 3 - Jan 10 - loaned to Xanthi (Greece), err they paid some of his wages.
Year 4 - Aug 10 - continued with Xanthi, someone found a video clip of him scoring a tap in from 3 yards!
    Year 4 - Jan 2011 to May - Preston on loan .....

I can only assume Jewell has signed him on a short term contract for no money, but bonuses for appearances, goals etc.

I honestly cannot understand a Championship team signing him permanently. At Watford we've had bad signings before (every club has), but we've been able to pay them off. Nathan's contract was so expensive we couldn't afford it, even in Year 1 as the Chairman lied.

If you ever wonder why Watford haven't redeveloped the East Stand - it is due to the money spent on Ellington. We were once told the money for the new stand was "ringfenced", a while later there was a mention that this information was not true. His legacy at Watford will not be forgotten.

You have been warned - and I'm not a bitter person, I stick purely to the facts.

I have said that I thought his signing would be a backward step and still stick by that. However, once he (or anyone else) pulls on a Town shirt then he has my 100% support. The powers that be at the club obviously rate him and are far better positioned to judge than I - as such, I trust their judgement.

Opinion and negativity are not one of the same BGK.

BREAKING NEWS - The transfer of Nathan Ellington from Watford FC to Ipswich Town has today (Tuesday, 21 June) been cancelled only hours after the deal was agreed.

It became apparent to the Tractor Boys medical team that 29 year old Ellington is allergic to parsley, a major ingredient in the Portman Road pies.

I genuinely feel sorry for you.

No football club (Luton Town not actually being a football club, of course) deserves to have Nathan Ellington on their books. This is a dark day for Ipswich. I hope for your sakes that:

    1) you aren't paying him anything like the ridiculous wage we were;
    2) you haven't offered him a long contract like we did; and
    3) all fast food establishments in Suffolk are instructed not to serve him.

    Good luck for the season.

A low risk signing financially and he has spoken highly of working with PJ. If he can do as he says in his interviews then probably not a bad player to have on the books.

In my eyes this is the worst transfer in I can remember in donkeys years !!!

    It truly is horrendous !!!!

People moan + slate Scotland - I'm not a fan, but he did net 10 goals last season which isn't a disaster at all in a poor poor side - I'd rather get him fit / mobile, with a better midfield around I'm sure he'd net more...

Ellington - Ahhhh deary me. If people think he's quick. Your part right - he WAS absolute lighting back in his Bristol Rovers days. HOWEVER, thats a long long time ago. He piled the weight on, is definitely the worst signing in Watford's history to boot.

The only positives, is Jewell was with him at Wigan - HOWEVER, it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference who was the manager back then at Wigan, as he WAS a good player and Wigan had a cracking side.

For this to work, Ellington HAS to get himself properly fit. In fairness he has a summer to work at it. He's 29, so his pace CAN return if he works hard at it. In his current fitness state, I'd rather have Ronan Murray uptop.

Its fair to say I'm absolutely gutted by this transfer. Truly, I am. Both Priskin + Scotland have more to offer.

I am happy to be proved wrong though, so Ellington you prove me wrong, I will eat a massive chunk of humble pie. My goal target for you next season is 7. If you hit that, I will be absolutely delighted.

I sure can. Came on against Bolton as sub, never played for the club again - Civelli is more similar to Le Pen......

I just think Ellington has disaster written all over it. His pace has gone

He's only 29 i'm sure if he gets his head down during pre-season he can still do a good job at this level.

I am happy with Ellington signing. Dunno why but I just have a feeling he will come good for us.

He has no extra pressure of a big price tag which he had at Watford and Jewell knows him well.

Even if he comes of the bench most of the season he will be offering something different. I can see 10 goals for the big man.

Plus look at the beard!!! Superb!!

Hopefully he'll be given a fair crack of the whip. You naysayers need to hold off until you've seen him perform in a Town shirt. Warm welcome and lots of encouragement required!

There are not enough bearded footballers around at the moment so i for one look forward to seeing him scoring goals in a town shirt while impressing us all with his facial furniture.
