http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/27091858 Another great defence of his WBA Super-Bantamweight World Title last night and Scott Quigg is really starting to impress me. He looks certain to be given the chance to unify a couple of the divisions titles, then perhaps a mega-fight with a possibly-crowned-champ-by-then Carl Frampton? Damn good stuff from fine British boxers
A guy in on a weeks notice. He'll beat Martinez if he gets that fight but that us where it ends imo. Frampton will beat Leo Santa Cruz. That'll be the time to fight Quigg. Frampton beats Quigg all day, every day. Rigo beats them both easily.
Yes, his fight was at short notice but that presents problems for Quigg also. All the fighters, ex-fighters and presenters on Sky's coverage were saying Tshifhiwa was a dangerous test and his record did suggest that also.
Yes it does present problems for Quigg, but really and truly any guy on a weeks notice against a world class operator is going to come up short. Quigg is good. He's world class in fact, I just have a couple of reservations about him. Frampton has no problem saying Rigo is the best in the division. He regularly mentions it. Quigg acts as though Rigo doesn't exist. he never mentions him. It isn't his fault that he got the belt through the back door but I can't really think of him as a world champ until he beats someone decent.
Quigg is good but I just don't see him beating Frampton. Sky will hype that fight up when it happens but I think that would be over early with Quigg on the floor asleep within 5.
Having watched the pair of them, I agree that Frampton wins vs Quigg. I still think it's a bit harsh to say that Quigg has not beaten anyone of any quality yet.
The performance of Quigg against Rendall Munroe has been given a bit of context since that fight given the recent showings from Munroe. I don't want this to be too negative though as clearly Quigg is a good fighter.
Scott quigg is fighting very well and throws the big shots at the right times. The inevitable fight with frampton is going to be a crscker for sure. We are blessed in british boxing at the moment as there are some great talents coming up and sone great alk hritish fights happenning. Quigg vs frampton. Froch vs groves. Fury or fury vs joshua (in tge future)
Frampton ain't British. Frampton just said this week he'll fight Quigg in Manchester and the winner fights Santa Cruz.... I guess it makes sense to do it now. He reckons he'll bring more fans from Ireland anyway. He's probably right too.
Correct The two time Irish Champion, European Silver medal winning for Ireland Carl Frampton is not British. (I shouldn't be bringing this to the boxing pages as it doesn't really matter a ****.... But it's true). However His manager his manager Barry the Brit who is from Co Monaghan is a Brit. It's all very confusing.
I'm not going to pretend I understand that! Honestly thought that those from Northern Ireland were counted as British Showing my ignorance now
Someone from the North can call themselves Irish or British. Frampton is from Tigers bay, very much a Unionist area. That would make it more likely that he'd identify with that tradition. However like with most other sports other than football Irish teams are based on the island of Ireland. Therefore he represented Ireland at boxing. The exception is for the Commonwealth games where the likes of Paddy Barnes will represent the North despite coming from a Nationalist part of town. Barry McGuigan didn't even come from the North but represented them in the Commonwealth games. That brought him a lot of criticism at the time. The truth is that none of these guys are really tainted with that outlook and all have benefitted from exploiting the opportunities that dual nationality can offer them. Boxing is perhaps the only working class pursuit that has been able to do that and I was just mischief making by bringing it up here. Frampton is a good **** regardless.
Pretty much bang on there. I can understand why people would make assumptions based on where the fighters are from but I think its a lot more complex than that.
I thought Frampton was from a mixed marriage. But regardless the UK and Ireland has some exciting talent and quigg is looking a very competent boxer ideally I'd like both to.have titles before the.superfight between the 2 would make it so good with a.unification fight would be amazing but it seems not likely to be the case...
