I was in PU today and have to say it was a horrible atmosphere. The team were awful first half and it does have a knock on effect. It was unbelievably quiet and whilst there was some atrocious passing from the likes of Carroll people appear to be completely unforgiving. The abuse when players try something that doesn't come off and willingness to boo is downright unhelpful. I know we were crap at times but the blinkers seem on for many. I thought JB had a good game yet a couple of guys near me didn't even clap when he scored! As ever once goal went in it totally changed and was great. I know we respond to the team and how they play, we have been really poor but you can't expect 100% perfection, it's a game of football! What's the atmosphere like in other areas from those who went?
I was in PU too. I thought the atmosphere was ok at KO, but after 10 minutes of Watford passing us to death it got quieter and quieter. I thought the booing started in the Q and R corner as did the cries of "Harry sort it out". Both spread around though! Can't agree about Barton. I thought he was pretty bad today, apart from his goal which obviously redeemed him a lot. He gave the ball away repeatedly but did at least put a shift in.
Didn't he also rescue us a couple of times defensively? By no means great but at least he put a shift in as you say. If someone is trying I'm not going to slate them as some were around me. Carroll by comparison was atrocious, lightweight and at times appeared not to want the ball.
Th atmosphere at the final whistle could have been very different had we not scored those late goals. One or two boos near me at half-time, and had we gone on to lose I think it could have been quite unpleasant. We were lucky to win today, having been outplayed for most of the game. Traore was MOM for me, whilst Dunne was very poor.
Yes I think he did. He worked hard, was just not great with the ball. Agree Carroll was poor today, but a lot of that was due to him and Barton chasing shadows and being crowded out most of the game. Traore was good first half, but I thought he was a lot quieter in the 2nd. Dunne was indeed very poor again. Everyone around me was slating him and asking why he's still in the team.
The is an air of resignation, we know we aren't going to play well or be entertained. The fans know we can't even protest against him as we still have a chance of going up, I feel it will change if he's here next season. People haven't even got the energy to abuse the players, there's just nothing coming from the fans which is right. You'd have to be the ultimate deluded happy clappy to be excited by this lot.
Or a fan getting behind your team. I understand that's an alien concept for you though, so maybe someone can draw you a picture...
You can be a happy clappy but no one around me was, you'd have to be an idiot to get excited by that performance. The fans have absolutely no effect on the team, I've seen many many dire performances where the fans were excellent. After 40 odd games, our fans know they aren't mugs but there's still a couple out there who are so gullible that they believe the fans being quiet means the team don't play well. I'll get behind the team when there's a team worthy of getting behind.
I'm not gullible, I know it doesn't make any difference, the majority on the pitch don't give a **** and most, but not all fans are intelligent enough to see that.
Doesn't make any difference? Many's the time you hear commentators talking about the crowd lifting the team. I'm beginning to think you've never actually seen a game...
After 44 games, its pretty clear nothing will lift this team. Most people except the deluded happy clappies can see that.
So what you actually said above was rubbish - it's all about this team and ultimately those you hate. Like Barton, who scored the equaliser today - you still hate him?
Yes, Id be a hypocrite if I changed my mind if he scores a goal. He's a horrible person. Terry could sign here and score an hattrick to seal a cup final but he'd still be a prick of the highest order. What I said was right, the fans have no effect on a team not motivated to play. That's the managers job and hes failing
