Premier League new boys Swansea City have stepped up their efforts to bring in a new goalkeeper by making an offer for Poland international Grzegorz Sandomierski. The Swans were first linked with a move for the highly-rated 21-year-old last week, but have now stepped up their efforts with a bid to his club Jagiellonii Bialystok. Sandomierski's performances last season led to him being linked with some of Europe's top clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Man Utd and Man City, with Chelsea the favourites for his signature at one stage. But Swansea have made a decisive move in a bid to get the 6ft 5in stopper between their sticks ahead of the new season. âOn Monday, we received a concrete offer from Swansea. For several weeks they have been very determined to buy Grzesiek,â a Jagiellonii Bialystok spokesman told a Polish newspaper. Sandomierski helped Jagiellonii Bialystok to the Polish Cup and Super Cup double last season, and a fourth-place finish in the league. The move could spell the end of Dorus de Vriesâ spell at the Liberty Stadium after it emerged that the Dutchman had rejected an initial contract offer from the club yesterday. Wolves could now snap-up the 30-year-old on a free transfer.
Not606 News Team.... ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!!! I know absolutely nothing about this guy, and videos on youtube will always make someone look good, so I´m putting faith firmly in Buck. If he thinks he´s good enough, that´s enough for me.
So it looks like DDV is on his way out. Must say I`m disappointed, but not too disappointed, his shot stopping is superb but his set piece displays are sometimes woeful. If he wants too much and Buck thinks there are better options re: this Polish guy, then let`s go for it.
A few observations from the YouTube videos: - Seems like he can get down quickly for a big keeper - He'd have to learn how to play the ball short (hoofballs R Not Us) - His height would be a big advantage in the PL (against Stoke, Bolton, etc) - He might be able to save a penalty occasionally Certainly gives DdV a rocket up the posterior....
i hope this guy is better than dorus at saving penalties. he's only ever saved one (leicester away). he almost got one at plymouth but it was retaken. i think my mother in law could score a pen against him. he's top man for shot stopping and has saved us pionts many times. i worry at free kicks and corners though (wembley). and many times it's been the defence that's had to bail him out of trouble. still a decent keeper mind.
Wow, I do hope your kidding. Dorus saved about 8 penalties in a row under Sousa, and as for our weakness at corners at Wembley - Reading had 18 corners and scored two, one of which was an unlucky deflection. The fact that we have kept 45 (?) clean sheets in the league over the past two seasons with an ever changing back four is testament to just how well DDV has played for us.
this polish lad sounds very promising, hope we can get him, i'm not so sure dorus will go, but if he does, he does, it's no good crying about it.
well maybe my wembley example wasn't the best. but he has been suspect at set pieces since he's been here. as for 8 penalty saves in a row under sousa. i don't remember them. what games were they in? i don't doubt his track record because his clean sheets speak for themselves. but he was helped by a strong defence in front of him. been thinking about it and still can't remember all those penalty saves. i'm pretty sure he didn't make one last season either. please correct me if i'm wrong.
8 penalty saves under Sousa? Nope, you're wrong. Only one I recall was away on Leicester City on the opening day of that season.
He did NOT save 8 in a row. Absolute rubbish. Has never been a pen specialist but is an excellent keeper in the reaction stakes by and large. Is absolutely shocking at set pieces - indecisive and a flapper. Would have to improve anyway if he's to be our number 1 in the Prem.
It doesnt mean to sayDVD is going. we still need 2 keepers. Healthy competiotion, but if it oly one of them we will still need a cover. Whoever is our keeper next year, Buck will ensure it is the right one.
Damnit, I forget everyone takes me seriously on 606. The 8 pens was tongue in cheek, I do remember he conceded about that before finally saving one then saved two or three before starting to save the spot kick before the rebound went in. I do think he's a solid keeper though and would be very happy with him in the Premier League.
chris, if the 8 saves were tongue in cheek, then ok. but i'm still confused as to where the two or three were. i was at leicester and plymouth so i remember them. but i don't recall any others. please enlighten us.
To be fair, I´ve always had Dorus down as being useless at penalties. As soon as we concede one I assume it´s a goal to them!
Well with Dorus now departed looks like we'll be stepping up our search for a replacement and this guy seems top of the list. Just got to trust Brendan and the board to bring in the right sort of keeper, Dorus will be a tough act to follow as most of our play began with his distribution but he wasn't faultless by any means. Maybe we'll now have a keeper who isn't so vulnerable on crosses and can actually catch a high ball.
