Fabregas at his best is better than the Bergkamp of 2003/04. The debate is, is it not, which of our current squad would get into the Invincible side of 2003/04 (thus we take those players on that seasons form). Compare the stats for Cesc in 09/10 to Bergkamp of 03/04, watch the games and compare the performances. So what if DB is a legend, what if he is the greatest player ever? You need to try and maintain a bit of intelligence, suggesting DB could still play for us at 45 years of age!?!?!??!
That was a very good team you had back then, and I did enjoy watching them play, albeit with envious eyes. However, as good as they were, surely they wouldn't be quite so "invincible" today? The real question surely ought to be would any of those players get into today's squad? Henry, definitely. He and RVP would be great together up front. Pires, possibly. Seaman, definitely. Vieira, too, quite likely. It's so difficult to judge these things, because the game has changed a lot, even in that short space of time.
How about we name the current team "The Vulnerables" until they actually win something other than the Emirates cup.
Yet you still mustered 5 less points then the Chelsea team that won the league the following year. I think both them teams and the united treble team are pretty hard to seperate. Yes you went unbeaten which is an amazing feat but we only lost once (in a 1-0 nil defeat where the goal was a pen and the only shot man city had on target all game) and accumilated more points. In respect of your team now compared to them, Van Persie, Fabregas and Nasri would have a shout depending on formation etc but there wouldn't be a need to alter such a good side just to fit them in.
you can prove anything with stats mate! the fact is bergkamp was an intregal part of that team is the debate right now and to even consider dropping him from that team is ludicrous. I'd take the bergkamp of 2003/04 over the fabregas of 2009/10 and 2010/11 without a shadow of doubt!
Are so saying that you would never ever drop him, even for an obviously superior player like Messi for example? Seems like blind loyalty to me.
Messi is not in question - If the thread was called what current barca XI would you put in the team of invincibles - then sure messi would get a look in but the thread asked about THIS current squad - and do i think that fabregas could replace bergkamp in that team - hell no - its not blind loyality its my opinion...
