Now that we are going to playing in champion league proper next season. Champion League - We need a bigger squad. Right Back...Do we need one or two players. Left Back- Certainly our problem area: How many players. Mid-Field-Gerrard is not getting younger. Do we need a long term replacement. Attacking forwards: Are we currently satisfied?. Next season we may need to play up to sixty games or more depending on how we progress in the Champion League, FA cup and League cup. Our current squad compared with Man City, Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal is the smallest.
depends on budget we have and also if we manage to get rid of deadwood first, ie Coates etc. anyone we bring in now i am hoping are an improvement on the first team and the squad hopefully will take care of itself. we certainly need better attacking options than Allen,Aspas and Moses from the bench.
Full backs: One right back. One left back. Perhaps one flexible for both wings. Don't keep Cissoko. Clear out Johnson. Still have, Flanny and Enrique. ¿Kelly? Midfield: At least one versatile midfielder. We've had enough midfielders this year but... don't know how many more games Gerrard's legs will last- and we need one more midfielder for Europe anyway. Attack: At least one more attacker, preferably one who can play anywhere in front 3 so that he can get some rotation time in. Out and out striker would rust on the bench and not be useful when needed. So by my count. A minimum of 4 players. Don't really need more than that. An extra winger and an extra full back might be nice.- I see a max of 6 players needed. We've got the kernel for a good team, even if I doubt we win title again next season #nojinx. Don't want to chop and change too much- don't want to be crap next year like Spurs.
A better question would be how would a not606 poster net-spend 50mill pounds? I would sell Borini (7m), Suso (5m), Kelly (3m), Reina (8m), Assaidi (3m), Aspas (4m). And Lucas (10m). Get in 40m. I'd buy 90m of: 1 young GK to compete with Mig (10m) 1 young FB comfortable on both right and left (10m) 1 solid CB to replace Kolo (15m) 1 solid DM to compete with Gerrard (15m) 1 established CM to compete with Hendo and Coutinho (20m) 1 established F (20m) Done.
every where.... yes rb.. flanagan to switch over. yes lb.. its dire at this point yes cm, especially box to box. yes gk yes a forward, find someone like sturridge yes a winger type add suso, wisdom, ibe and ilori to the mix before more... but think on.. aspas and moses to go for sure, toure to play less, really alberto to go out on loan...theres a lot of work to do to be competitive. this year has to be taken as just this year and next year we assume we are behind
dont agree with getting rid of suso, could use lucas and reina as a bargaining tool for rafa to have them and we have higuin (spelling?) in return lol any chance we could have another look at papa for cb position.
i say buy 3 world class players and bring back Suso and maybe Borini as well. What type of 3 class players is Rodgers problem lol
plank £15 mill, just a decent DM and FBs needed then, but we have Llori,Wisdom,Flanno,Mclaughlin etc who can do a job hopefully.
I want quality over quantity. Even if it means we can't strengthen every area we would like in one window.
Agree with your list except from Lucas and Suso (maybe Borini) the rest can defo go, suso, Lucas and Borini are good options to come off the bench, especially Suso as he's still very young, Borini too.
Except, you never get all the money from a sale to spend on someone else. For every £10mil you get from selling a player- there is always £1 or £2 mill that evaporates during a transfer. Lost to lawyers, or agents, or the players themselves. We're also assuming the FSG let's Rodger's keep 100% of the money from a sale to spend on someone else. That frequently isn't the case. Selling £40mill of players will probably only give you £30mill or less to play with.
Great idea about bargaining with Napoli if Reina wants to stay there. Plus, Lucas would certainly sweeten the deal for Rafa. What would we want from Napoli though? Higuain is an-out-and-out striker and Rodgers prefers some versatility there, already having SAS. Maggio is great but 32 years old. Hamsik may have an attitude problem. Inler? Mertens (a poor man's Hazard)? Behrami (Henderson copy, but perhaps more combative)?
If there is a God, he will make sure we sign 2 new full backs - full backs who can actually defend and stop crosses coming in. Lucas is a shadow of the player he was - looks extremely slow and I think the injuries have taken their toll. Poor on the ball, unless given loads of time and space, constantly giving away free kicks, and slow to cover the ground. We need another powerful midfielder, box to box. Lars Bender would be my choice. And a couple more attacking options like Firmino and Konoplyanka.
We're rich in Suso's position though, with Alberto and Texeira being developed also, besides Sterling and Couts obviously.
These youngsters (bar Flano) need a couple of season to reach maturity, if they ever do to satisfactory levels. We can't rely on them to carry our defence and midfield next season.
Backup Goalie, Sign a left back and Flanno to be 1st choice right back. Wisdom to come back in as cover for RB and CB in place of Agger who will probably be leaving I feel. A top central midfielder to play with Gerrard and Henderson/Coutinho would be great, somebody like Kroos would be good. I think Remy would be a good signing to cover for Suarez and Sturridge and can play wide too. Top class left back and central midfielder should be priorities I think.
If we head into the new season with Flanno as first choice RB I'd be disappointed. For as good as he is, he's not at the moment, CL quality full back over a whole season. He could easily get to that in 2 or 3 years time. I'm a big fan and have defended him on here plenty of times, but he lacks pace and his positioning is still suspect. Obviously some of that can improve and will do, but him and Wisdom as our 2 RB's? No thanks... New first choice RB with Enrique at LB and Flanno being able to cover both sides. New CM who I able to do box-box. Need energy in the middle as Hendo is the only one providing that at the moment. Possibly another more defensively minded ones for games where Gerrard can be rested (he'll be 34 and can't play every game). A versatile wide forward (Kono/Greizman type). Quick and pacey who can play across the front 3 and challenge Sterling/Coutinho in that place. Then, depending on who leaves, another top quality CB to challenge Skrtel for that place.
