There have been periods when each club has had bigger gates, for the record I've never said "your fans only started supporting you in 2003".

The gates Chelsea had in the 90's, 13,000 etc, clearly do show that many fans have come along since those days.

You can't deny that especially as your gates are 3 times the side.

Wimbledon had bigger gates, at times, in the 90's so the 'one of the largest fan bases' has clearly been fickle.

    Yeah sorry I missed that.

I'd feel hard done to if we went down under any circumstances.

However, pulling someone back by his shirt, is risking giving a penalty away ....... I'd partially blame the player for giving the referee the chance to penalise.

Cattermole was booked in the first half for shirt pulling after he'd given the ball away, sheer stupidity but more so in the area.

Do you think it was wrong to have booked Cattermole for that and should shirt pulling be allowed?

The shirt pulling rule is the bane of any referees existence. It is universal in all set pieces, and barely ever punished as unless a player clearly goes to ground the referee has nothing to give.

Considering it is so widespread, what instances do you punish. Do you favour the attacking or defending team? It is very hard for referees.

However, shirt pulling outside of set plays when it isn't punished is even more infuriating though thankfully it happens less.

For me all it points to is a softening of the rules. Unless there is quite a bold rethink of what should and shouldn't be punished I can see us debating this every year.

All refereeing decisions are endlessly debated ........ people are still talking about the Chelsea penalty against West Brom aren't they?

That's fine but Hoddle & Redknapp are still arguing about yesterday and they're carrying on the debate on GSS.

Long time for the crowd to wait <laugh>

I've not argued about the comparative gates of Sunderland & Chelsea.

I simply said that stats can be used to suggest all kinds of things.

I've no idea of the context of the game, posted below, and whether it's typical of Chelsea gates at that time.

I posted it to show how random stats mean very little, this would indicate that Wimbledon have a bigger fan base than Chelsea which isn't true.

What is true is that it shows that some of Chelsea's current support are 'Johnny come latelys' which is true.

That was the point I was responding to.

    Chelsea 1 - 2 Sheffield United
    31st October 1992
    Premier League
    Stamford Bridge, attendance, 13,763

    Wimbledon 0 - 0 Chelsea
    28th December 1992
    Premier League
    Selhurst Park, attendance, 14,687

Gave up on this thread due to the game being 3 days ago.

My point stands, to give the pen for the softness of the said pull would've been atrocious. I certainly wouldn't be calling for a pen if somebody pulled our players shirt in the same way. Your useless lump slipped, end of discussion.

It's not the end of the discussion just because you think your opinion is all that matters <laugh>

The 'point' doesn't stand, it's just your opinion, nothing more.

Cattermole was booked, in the same game, for shirt pulling .......... the defender pulled Altidore's shirt so that's an offence in the area.

The referee missed that but gave the penalty for something he thought he saw.

So, either Cattermole was wrongly booked and you believe shirt pulling should be allowed or Sunderland were due a penalty.

You gave up on the thread because, like Altidore, your argument doesn't stand up when challenged <laugh>

    See ya <ok>

I didn't expect Sunderland to win the game but I admire how they played that day. :)

If a penalty was given every time Skrtel pulled a shirt, Liverpool would be not be on top this season that's for sure.

Anyway you can pull as many shirts as you like in front of 22k in Div 1

Why do you keep referring back to the shirt pull? I'm talking about the thing the ref actually gave the pen for, your useless lump slipping when STANDING on Azpillicueta's trailing leg.

I have not said shirt pulling is allowed, I'm saying the pull you are referring too was soft as **** and if you conceded a penalty for that there'd be uproar. He literally pinched his shirt, stop overreacting. If you think Azpillicueta's shirt pull was anything like Cattermole's then you are an idiot.

I gave up on the thread because the game ended on Saturday evening fella, and pedants like you keep returning to get dealt with.

Call me when your manager hasn't been charged 3 times, your head coach twice, one of your players suspended 4 times in a season and you don't end a game with 9 players

I might give a **** about your opinion then... but no promises <ok>
