But what I don't understand, why this soon and kept secret?

Did Charlie just wake up and go "You know what? I'm banning this now."

I reckon Ferrari have that same technology from the film Inception, planting ideas into people's heads lol. ;)

I was just about to post Chandhok's seat fitting - he must be getting out at some point then, the team has said they had 'big things' planned for him, although a FP1 drive isn't exactly big, in my opinion.

Given that the restriction on off-throttle blowing is coming in after this race it does seem as though this idea has only just occurred or been suggested to the FIA. The ideal moment to implement this would have been when they decided to give the teams a stay of execution on absorbing the changes.

It'll be interesting to see if the impact on qualifying forces them into more aggressive race mappings. Red Bull might have been running a conservative race mapping because they have a grid advantage. That may have to change now because they'll have to estimate before qualifying what position they'll start the race from.

It's a pity we haven't had this rule in effect for the past few races.

Been away for a few days, as my daughter got married, great day had by all. She has married a rock guitarist, not many Dads can say that, probably not many would want to, but he's a great guy, not telling you who he is.

I think Red Bull will not have their qualifying advantage, as the FIA have stopped teams using any qualy engine mapping setting, the team have to use race settings only ! hence the blown rear diffuser effect is reduced, this may level the playing field somewhat. Me I'm for Hamilton who else !

I think he's going to be driving in the Indian GP. Maybe they'll also give him a race before then to improve his performance there.

I can just imagine what Trulli would have to say about that, haha!

    Congratulations Ernie. <bubbly>

Do you think the teams will stick with the same approach to race mappings they've employed up to now? When they have to decide on the mapping they won't be sure where they'll end up on the grid.

Head says Alonso to win, they use it less than the other top teams, congratulations btw.

Yes, I think so, certainly McLaren and Red Bull have race settings that works, strange why Webber has not performed to his ability.

Bastards. They clearly have an agenda, my preview article is less relevant now, I bet Andrew Benson put them up to this. <grr>

Ferrari are clearly leaning on the FIA again, you wouldn't have seen this nine years ago when Schumacher was dominating. I really hope Vettel wins again this weekend, and hopefully they'll get a nice interview with Todt when his plan backfires.

More on Chandhok - Kovalainen has tweeted that any rumour Chandhok is replacing him for FP1 or FP2 is false.

yep the engine mapping is clearly aimed at Red Bull

Now why would Lewis want to head off to Red Bull in the future when it's obvious Ferrari are the team to be at since they get better treatment by the FIA.

I disagree :emoticon-0130-devil. This ruling applies equally to all teams and is consistent with the FIA's long-standing position that qualifying should be completed by race cars, not special qualifying cars. I just wish we'd have had a few more races to see this directive in action before they require engine mappings to be modified to reduce off-throttle blowing.

At least Vettel will now not be able to pull a 2+ second gap after the first lap or a restart anymore, or is that because of the exhausts heating the tyres? Probably a combo of the two but come Silverstone they both will of been neutered from his car.
