SPURS are ready to join the race for Bolton's £17million England centre-back Gary Cahill.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is a long-time admirer of the former Aston Villa ace and enquired about him back in January.

But he faces competition for the 25-year-old's signature from Arsenal and mega-rich Manchester City.

Bolton chief Owen Coyle wants players in part-exchange for Cahill as a straight cash deal would end up going to help reduce their £90m debt.

Cahill can leave the Reebok if any club meets a £17m release clause.

Coyle said: "People have to make sure they come up with the right offer.

"He won't be going on the cheap, that's for sure.

"Gary could play for anyone and looking at a few of the deals that are going on right now, it surprises me there hasn't been a concrete offer."

Redknapp could throw defender Sebastien Bassong into any deal, while another option is for Danny Rose to be offered on a year's loan.

Spurs could also end up scrapping it out with rivals Arsenal for Blackburn's Chris Samba.

What do people think of this??
I think we need some extra CB cover due to injury plagued defenders, but paying £17m for Cahill might be a bit much...

Quite expensive, but probably quite necesarry considering King is on his last legs.

Who would he replace, though? Gallas or Dawson?

He must be first team as £17m is far too much for a bench-warmer.

The metro report had the 'deal' as Kaboul & Bassong + £££ in exchange.

I presume Gallas would make way for this sort of wonga!

The Bassong and Kaboul part sounds like total speculation, to me.
That would be a ludicrously expensive deal and Bolton would be getting by far the better exchange.

Why would we want to get rid of Kaboul?

    No idea.
I'd be annoyed if we did.

It does make you wonder where they get their 'info' from!

The metro are normally ok for wumming news but even they must be bored at the moment!

Don't think we'd go in for him. Until Bassong has actually left we have no need for another centre back anyway.

It looks extremely likely that Bassong will go though, SF.
He's spoken about last season being hellish and needing to move to play more often.
There was a rumour about him being used in a part-exchange deal for Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, too.

I hope we don’t go anywhere near Shawcross, don’t really rate him that much but tbh haven’t seen a lot of him. Out of the defenders available and their priced,

    Samba £15m
    Shawcross ??
    Cahill £17m
    Scott Dann £12m

Who would you guys buy? Personally I think Dann is the better defender and cheaper too. Samba would interest me, but likely to go to goons.

Using Kaboul in a part-exchange deal for Cahill???

I hope these are just rumours.

Good to see you here, Spur-adic <ok>

Dann wouldn't be a bad shout but I'd be happy for us to go for someone to be back up for Dawson, Gallas, Kaboul and King. Spending over £10mill on that player would be a bit much, in my opinion.

PNP, I know Bassong wants out but until he actually leaves, we don't need anyone and he wouldn't be the first player to backtrack.

I would hate to lose Kaboul. He shows a lot of promise for a young guy. He can potentially be better than Cahill in a couple of years.

Couldn't agree more - Bassong plus cash for Cahill or similar would be a strengthening - including Kaboul throws away future potential

Kaboul always looks solid whenever he plays for us. I can't see that he's done anything other than to make a good case for being a big part of our future.

Ah, fair enough. I posted a bit on JA606 but when given the option of far less WUMs on here, I've not been on there much.

I was Steffen Freund Crossbar Superstar on 606 and later SFCS - ... I didn't post much on 606 for awhile and when I cameback it was closing.

There's an article on Ladbrokes' site suggesting that they're interested in a right-back, with Walker and Hutton both suggested as possible inclusions in the transfer.
Bassong and Hutton plus some cash?
Might not be a bad move.
