Next Sunday sees the 41st 2014 PFA Awards. Aside from the men's Player of the year and Young player of the year (as was previously reported: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...er-of-the-Year-Luke-Shaw-for-PFA-Young-Player) the team of the year will also be announced. There is always a lot of cynicism surrounding these selections as players have openly admitted it is usually based on which players are performing well at the end of the season. However, this year is interesting as it could see: * No Man United players selected for the first eleven since the 1989/90 season. * The first goalkeeper of a relegated side included * First Southampton player included in the Premiership XI for more seasons than I can research! So, who would be in your Premier League team of the year? Here is my 18, what do you think, have I missed someone obvious? XI: Marshall (Cardiff), Coleman (Everton), Shaw (Southampton), Cahill (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hazard (Chelsea), Toure (Man City), Lallana (Southampton), Sturridge (Liverpool), Suarez (Liverpool). Subs: De Gea (Man U), Baines (Everton), Kompany (Man City), Ramsey (Arsenal), Barkley (Everton), Rodriguez (Southampton), Rooney (Man U). Notable mentions for: Zabaleta, Henderson, Barry, Delph and Bony.
I think it was harsh he did not make it last year, but this season injuries have taken their toll on him, same for David Silva and Ramsey.
The next question should be, who will actually get in! Sterling and Lloris, remember footballers have short memories .
I don't think hardly any centre backs have - that position, along with left back took the longest (that's Hodgson's and one of England's problems too!). Kompany has generally played well but his injuries have ruled him out of a lot of games.
I'd be tempted to throw Eriksen on the bench ahead of one of Barkley and Rodriguez. If he'd played more, Aguero would be a lock too.
Yes, but for whom - Barkley? I have not Sterling either... :s I wonder if the XI will just be all Liverpool players...
Stekelenburg (Fulham); Celustka (Sunderland), Brown (Sunderland), Yanga-Mbiwa (Newcastle), Monreal (Arsenal); Young (Man Utd), Gunnarsson (Cardiff), Mikel (Chelsea), Duff (Fulham); van Wolfswinkel (Norwich); Bent (Fulham). Bench: Mannone (Sunderland), Anita (Newcastle), Wilkinson (Stoke) Moses (Liverpool), Larsson (Sunderland), Graham (Hull), Gayle (Crystal Palace). My TOTY.
Bit harsh on Mannone, other than the Man City goal he has been very good and his performances got them to the league cup final
I literally struggled for GK, I couldn't think of many that had a terrible season. Gazza was a possibility but hasn't played many games. Possibly Ruddy or Vorm?
Assuming this is a squad of the most disappointing players, it's pretty harsh on Gayle, who was good then got injured. You've got to have Altidore in there.
GKs have been real entertaining this year. None have really stood out but none have really been terrible. We want Courtois!
