Barca know they can get him for free in four years time. Why pay stupid money for a player they know they are going to get anyway, some day, and at the peak of his career? They don't exactly need him at the moment, but they will when Xavi retires. Fab walking away on a Bosman fits in nicely for Barca. And all this business about "Fab not being worth as much as he was last year" is fantastic psychological gaming by Barca. They're basically saying to the Gooners, give him to us now for £25 million, because next year we'll only be offering £20 million, and the year after that only £15 million, and so on. As much as the Gooners may not like it, you've got to admire Barca's cunning.
He is our best player, and its about football not money. If he goes to Barca on a free in 4 years I will be happy for him, as long as he puts in a great 4 year stint for us. How can anyone diss a player who delivers the quality he does and stays at your club for 11 years, that's pretty loyal especially for a foreign player. This arrangement suits everyone, although I do think Barca have shown a total lack of class with all this public BS.
100% agree. You got him for nowt so if you get that level of service out of him and then he leaves for nothing then so what?? But that's just it, though. Fab won't go to Madrid, or to any club other than Barcelona. That's why you'll have to compromise with Barca eventually, or end up with Fab leaving on a Bosman. When he gets into the last two years of his contract, he'll be able to buy himself out. One way or other, Fab is going to Barcelona on their terms and conditions. I'm sorry that irks you Gooners, but that is how it is.
