Joking apart, you really can't be serious? If he was still in charge there is no guarantee that he would have been able to repair the problems that existed with the squad of players that he had. Therefore whilst he may have managed to squeeze another couple of points out them than they have accumulated the end result of a total failure of a season would have happened.

Being serious i think we would have at least made top four, there are many games we have dropped points in this season that just would not have happened, especially at home.

  3. I always wanted us to win the league with him still there to avoid the excuses / argument that Diego has come out with in this thread; "Man Utd would have won the league had Fergie been in charge". That was always going to be their angle.

I hate the "knocked off their perch" comment. Not because Fergie said it but because of what he meant and how the media have twisted the interpretation over the years. Fergie meant he wanted to make Man Utd the strongest side, he never meant overtaking the league titles record. Not even Fergie would have dreamt of doing that when they were sat so far behind. However, for the first time ever, I will use that sentence; I wanted us to win the league whilst Fergie was in charge to knock him right back off that bloody perch!

I see Fergie and the perch thing as similar to Shankly and his dream for Liverpool:

"My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility; Napoleon had that idea - he would conquer the bloody world. That's what I wanted, that Liverpool would be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up and up until eventually everybody would have to submit, give in."

I'll never dislike someone showing ambition, my hate for "perch" is purely based on what the media has portrayed it to mean.

Oiy you, i have not come up with any excuses. We are out of the chase by a long way (and you have not won the league yet). My position is that the league is poor (as it has been for some time) and i have seen nothing to prove to me that had Fergie carried on we would not have had as much chance of winning as last year with the same squad.

  7. I wasn't pointing the finger as such Diego, I meant it generally as majority of people would probably say the same. However, you're doing what I've suggested in the highlighted bit. Whether you like it or not, that is based on assumptions, its an "if".

I agree that you guys would have been better (IMO), but that's not the point.

Sorry G, it is based on assumption (or hope), there are games at home this season we would never have expected to lose points in (or at least not all three) so i suppose i am just going off past results.

We have never really had them, we were based more on a team. We bought one once (Veron), it turned out he wasn`t suited to the Premier League.

  15. Its a bit like us finishing second in 2009. We claimed we would have won the league in any other season with that points total but the fact of the matter is, we didn't. If we win the league this season (#onegameatatime) you guys will claim it wouldn't have happened had Fergie been in charge but the fact of the matter is he wasn't. Its just fans attempting to put a positive spin on things.

If i meant England it would be true, if i meant United i forgot Ronaldo (been drinking), Veron was a world class (top top) player when we bought him, he just couldn`t cut it in the Premier League.
