You say that now, but in a few years time you'll finally achieve your goal of hitting the 40% tax bracket, then together with National Insurance 45p of every extra pound you earn will be going to the government - "wtf?" you'll think, "I can't even afford a nice property in London and the ****s are taking almost half of any pay rises off me". You'll have a little look around and see woeful government inefficiency. While you struggle to pay off a huge mortgage you'll listen to people complain about being charged a little bit of money for empty bedrooms in their free social housing, the bitterness will grow and grow, until it dawns on you that the country is jam packed full of ****heads who want something for nothing - and you're the one who is supposed to foot the bill.
