Right, decision made, no more pussy-footing around. Dubrovnik it is, hopefully first week of May before it disappears under the weight of foreign tourists on package holidays!
Best flight I've found is Easyjet, Stansted --> Dubrovnik about £130 return. Monarch (hi <ok>) go from Gatwick, but are no cheaper. Any suggestions welcome, as I didn't get where I am today by spending surplus cash on flights!
Korčula and Mljet islands are deffo pencilled in, plus a visit to the arboretum at Trsteno.

Travel insurance soars in price as soon as you mention the "C" word, but having had treatment last year, it would be dumb not to mention it and risk invalidating the policy.

Anyhoo, all recommendations in Southern Dalmatia are very welcome as I try and cobble an itinerary together. Cheers one and all <ok>

Regarding the "C" word Cromer, have you been given the all clear, or are you in remission?

Enjoy yourself fella, I absolutely loved Dubrovnik and the two islands we stayed on (Kolocep and Lopud, the two nearest the mainland) and would recommend it to anyone. Try to catch a sunset from the city wall as well, that was pretty breathtaking over dinner <ok>

Hope all is ok with the "C" word as well mate, wasn't aware that you had crossed swords with it. I had some pretty shocking news yesterday, one of my best mates from uni announced he has been diagnosed at the tender age of 35, sounds like they caught it in time but 35 for christ's sake! He's got a baby boy less than a year old as well so all my fingers and toes are crossed for him, as they are for you too chap <ok>

That's me, Dave, in the bold type. I gather there is no such thing as an 'all clear' as the radiotherapy treatment itself has been known to trigger secondary cancers later in life.
But - touch wood, in my bi-monthly check ups since August, they're very pleased with things.....as am I <ok>
(Sorry, guys, I know it's a football forum, but the question was asked in good faith)

Talking of foreign travel, I assume this is the sort of thing Thai has to put up with when he's browsing the downtown bazaars <yikes> ?
Apparently, it's a small town called Talad Rotfai.

Firstly the good news - I'm off to Stansted a bit later ready for a crack-of-dawn flight to Dubrovnik tomorrow morning <ok>

The bad news is, I've located a sports bar in the old city which shows all available football, so guess where I'll be on Sunday afternoon <yikes>
Ironically, it's an Irish pub called 'The Gaffe' - and it has a happy hour <cheers>

Let's hope Hughton doesn't make any more 'gaffes' and we can all enjoy a 'happy hour' or two of Premier League football again next season <ok>

Apologies, but some over zealous moderator has 'tidied up' and I can't find the old travel thread we used to have here. :emoticon-0105-wink:

In a couple of weeks time - almost a year to the day since I went to Dubrovnik, I'm off to Croatia once again. One of the places I'm visiting / staying (for the princely sum of £16 a night for a single en suite room!) is the UNESCO world heritage site of Trogir, 30 km from Split.
Here are some pix so people can see why I'm so buzzing about it <ok>

Speaking of travel though, has anyone got any experiences of Scandinavia to share? I'm planning a trip this summer which will probably take me through Talinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, Malmö and Copenhagen. Not an area of the world I've ever visited before, so any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheap(ish) camping holiday, flamingoland in North Yorkshire.

Brilliant theme park, it's not alton towers but has some excellent coasters and other rides.

Theme park has its own camp site, stay on site and your one day theme park tickets are valid for your whole stay!

Camp site has evening entertainment and swimming pool both free.

Camp site is very pleasant, huge pitches, lots of washing areas and free showers.

We go every Whitsun break. The parks doesn't get too busy and as you're camping on site you're allowed in before the main gates open so effectively queue jumping.

There's an offer on via express at the moment pay to go and stay on camp site for up to 3 days for FREE!

I went there last year! Stayed in Okrug Gornji, which is on the island south of Trogir

It's amazing. The market next to the bridge has some great fresh food for lunches. There are quite a few restaurants on Kamerlengo Island which are quite pricey, so you may want to avoid other than as a treat. If you do go, the catch of the day is an absolute must. The local wine, if you are prepared to move above the bottom price bracket, is surprisingly decent.

Also you have to hire a little phut-phut boat and explore the islands.

It was also very humid and about 38 degrees when I was there, so hot.

Have a great time!

Yes, Rob, I went to Okrug Gornji and Donji on Ciovo island. Superb walking area, with well waymarked footpaths all over. Also saw my first ever Sardinian warbler while there.
Big fan of the local wine - there was a stall on Trogir market selling red reserve wine from Peljesac peninsula for circa £37 a bottle (310 kuna).

Avoided the indifinous grape called 'Debit' though, it's like a cross between Retsina and Domestos !! <yikes>

Completely natural photo, not retouched at all. I use a Fujifilm SD2500HD bridge camera which has been a damned good servant for the £120 or so I paid for it <ok> When those clouds lifted, you could clearly see the mighty Velebit mountains in the background, as I was very close to National Park Paklenica, a hikers / rock climbers paradise.

Sorry, I didn't read the thread properly and hadn't realised you'd already gone <doh>

Cracking photo

Don't remember 'Debit', but I certainly remember a few horror shows <laugh>
