I've only done 1 - 4. Visit the Giant's Causeway, N.Ireland It's a bit English centric, and a bit ****, really.
It's extremely Anglo Centric Mick. Sail around the isle of Wight being a prime example. What's wrong with sailing round Arran or Mull etc.
No Up Helly Aa, Edinburgh Castle, Loch Lomond, Skara Brae etc etc etc, I could probably name 50 better things to do in Scotland alone.
The more you study it the more ludicrous it appears. What would you think more intereresting "Watching a boxset of Only Fools and Horses" or a 3 day canoe expedition on the Caledonian canal?
Absolutely Dev. Even the missing English bits are stupid - no Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, anything in Devon, Oxford Spires etc. Also, if you're focussing on big events, which this list appears to do where's the Edinburgh Festival, Eistedfod (sp) etc. Christ not even Gretna Green is on there.
Dine in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant - Why? Hold the FA Cup in your hands Take in the view from the top of the Shard - To see London? Have tea at Betty's tearooms, Harrogate - Never heard of it. Watch a British player at Wimbledon - Why not just see any match at Wimbledon? Drive round Brand's Hatch - That's just desperate, one of the hacks probably did this once. A Jack the Ripper walk in the East End - Maybe interesting but ultimately futile. Go on a historic London pub tour - A Pub crawl, Sounds rivetting See Tower Bridge raised - That must be amazing. Visit Borough food market, London - As above See Morris Dancers at a country pub - As long as i can take a shotgun Be at a recording of X-Factor or BGT - Wow, a must for Jeremy Kyle viewers.
I really hope someone was sitting in the office thinking "how far can I go before the editor says I'm taking the piss?". The answer was clearly "as far as you bloody like". By the way Dev, is that NYE ceremony in Stonehaven the one where some bloke is called the "Clavey King" and wanders round town with what looks like a metal bucket with a fire in it? Saw it on Countryfile once.
I think so, never been to Stonehaven, but i'd rather see Up Helly Aa. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-25917694 Shetland's spectacular annual Up Helly Aa fire festival has been held. Up Helly Aa is a famous event that celebrates Shetland's Viking heritage, culminating in the dramatic burning of a replica Viking galley. It features a band of latter-day Viking warriors known as the Jarl Squad, and draws visitors from around the world. The Vikings traditionally spend much of the day making public appearances. It's a list not the list, we could all add our local-interest favourites for example: watch a local punk or goth band at Bowes Lyon House, Stevenage.
The list was complied by Ask Jeeves in a survey of 1000 British Adults, which probably means some of this ****e was voted for by one or two morons and that was enough to get it into the top 50, a bit like our electoral system. And some of you wonder why Scotland might actually want Independence?
