I'm sure it won't bother them. Im sure the press will blow it out of proportion. Im sure nothing will be done to make amends for the history inflicted on the Aborigines and everything will carry on as before.

Press coverage of the Saxe-Coburg's latest holiday has bordered on unconscious satire. 2-3 minute reports with that boot-licking toady Nicholas Witchell talking about an 8-month old baby as being 'composed' and making inferences about his state of mind, thoughts, etc. Probably I'm hungry, sleepy, done a poo. Not news, obviously. It's ****ing embarrassing.

Im not sure the Aboriginals did much of anything today. Their protest got about two lines in the press, and that was just to say how it was quickly disbanded before the royal entourage turned up.

The main news is just about how the republican cause has been put back about 10 years. Of course the news may be reported differently down in Dan Kellys neck of the woods, but up here in Brisbane its all positive, if you like the royals of course.

    Three cheers for the Royals.

They seem as popular as ever Down Under.

I can only go on the images I saw on telly this morning.

It seems churlish to ridicule the delight of kids and adults on these occasions.

I don't get it with the abo's. We sent them some workers. Okay, not the pick of the crop, and granted they tended to be genetically lazy and dim enough to get caught being dishonest and anti-social, but that was for the locals to train up.

They should aim their protest at the non-aborigines that are their milking their homeland, not the charitable folks that sent them servants.

Serious question Stu - I'd venture it's safe to say you're to the right on the political spectrum, and even though I am not I often find myself agreeing with you when you question the unexamined assumptions of those on the left and the bias of the left wing press. So bearing that in mind, simple question: why do you support the monarchy? A positive, philosophical response would be good, ie, not a negative one (such as "it's better than"...a republic, Pres Tony Blair, EU federalism, etc etc) or a utilitarian one (such as "they bring in tourist revenue" etc). Beyond base traditionalism and a belief in Divine Right of Kings or, worse yet, uncritical supplicantism, I can't think of any positive, rational reason to support them. And bear in mind not 'supporting' them is different than saying let's hang them all or something similarly daft. Perhaps you might enlighten me.

My only gripe with William coming here is, he didn't come round to see me and offer to give me a lift to good old Blighty in his private plane. As payback, back in Blighty i would be prepared to stand in for him as president of the FA, at some final involving some northern upstarts, thats coming up in May, just so he doesn't need to bother. Of course i would present any trophy that needs sorting.

Then based on what I actually put they wouldn't be aiming their protest at you...although clearly not by me, it could be argued by some that thou doth protest too much.

Isn't one of the rules on this forum that we don't discuss politics? If so, I ask you this simple question, why are you discussing politics and trying to get others to join in?

It is a rule and it's because it always ends up getting out of hand.

You're quite right. Sometimes we let such discussions run if it's a big topical issue and/or the debate is reasoned rather than name calling. I saw this as leaning towards the type of comments that crop up during the cricket, but the OP is, as you point out more political, but I don't see it as clear cut.

As it seems to be heading towards politics, I'll close it, but PM one of us if you've a reasoned view on why it should be left open.
