    .................are bound to repeat it.

I am resigned to us going down as there are no miracles in football but the consequences of the supposed happenings at the end of the season fill me with dread for our club.

Harking back to 1958 we were looking good to stay up in February then Alan Brown slowly began to promote youngsters in place of the pros that had got us into a relatively safe league position. We won one game between Feb and April and in the end were relegated, we never returned until 1964. This season is almost parallel to that situation inasmuch as we lose a mass of experienced players with nothing to fill the void.

Regardless of who caused it or why we got where we are, if we want to avoid another long stay in the championship then is it not sensible to retain some of the current experienced players to get us back quickly rather than the huge rebuild that has been mooted. We have seen the best and worst of the team lately but it seems obvious that they can play well enough to maybe even get us back in the first season.

If we go for the huge rebuild then I fear for the club's future in football so like it or not a professional decision has to be made and the blame game avoided for the sake of the club and its supporters and the current players who will be of use to us retained on new contracts.

I watched the Doncaster v Derby game today and for two teams at either end of their league the football was just about ordinary and it would not take long for our supporters to vote with their feet if we are served up with anything like that.

Well reasoned comments, I watched bits of the game last night and it was full of effort with no quality, the trouble is we are short of both in key areas and only changes in personnel will rectify this, just who goes and who stays will decide our fate next season, and you are right to warn of wholesale clearouts, and it might be a case of the devil you know for a while yet, good post.
