This thread is just making me hungry. I could absolutely murder Fish and Chips but no chance of getting it over here on Good Friday. I grew live 2 doors from a chippy on Greek St, off Hawthorn Ave, now I'm probably 2000Km from the nearest one.
I decided to hold a beer, wine and spirits festival!!!! London Pride Badger Fursty Ferret Speckled Hen Chateau Chataigniere Bordeaux 2011 Chateau Badie La Foret Bordeaux 2012 Casillero Del Diablo Sauvignon Blanc 2013 Bacardi Reserva Gordons Gin So far so good The beers been done, the rum is on the side. It's on Chapel Street - near The Cheese pub and opposite Magma. Chapel street is that little one that links Jameson Street and Paragon Street.
And if you can be arsed to walk a little bit further, Golden Fry on Savile Street has been excellent for a long time.
'Twas ever thus. That's your call. Not a fan myself. I once witnessed my dad go behind the counter at Kingfisher on Boothferry Road (now seems to be called Sam's) and skin fish for my family because they only offered it with skin on. Indeed it is. My old man used to have to sample the goods at various chippys up and down the country as part of these awards. I remember being taken to "Barnacles" in Billingham and "Mr Chips" in Louth. We're talking 20 years ago now, but the last one I remember being recommended in Hull was on the corner of Bond St and Jameson St (seems to be called "Miss Buffet" now). I've lost the tradition today and gone prawn, crab and squid dim sum in Chinatown for lunch, with salmon bagels for tea.
