Got to be honest, I used to love my fish and chips and scraps. But I find it embarrassing that when I leave the KC on a Saturday, there is no where in the town centre that does fish and chips especially near the station before I catch my train home.

The chippy on my street, Harry Jackson's, used to have queues down the street on a Good Friday, but has been closed for a couple of years. There's signs that it might be about to reopen, but the work is progressing rather slowly.

Funky Fish or 53 Degrees North? Both are pretty good to be fair. The Chippy van that used to go around the Caves and surrounding areas was excellent; I know he still goes to Newbald on a Thursday but haven't seen him for ages. He used to go to Bear Inn car park on a Tuesday night (perfect timing for a trip to the KC!) but he hasn't been about since before Christmas, anybody know what happened to him?

Doffing my cap to Cave St here. That fish was gigantic, it hung off the plate both ends. 2 mugs of tea, 2 slices of white bread n butter-cut diagonally of course. Just like Gainsborough used to do. Heaven.

I'm regretting starting this Easter egg now though. But i dont like to give in.

Beached on the floor now and not moving for awhile...

Now you are talking, the Gainsborough. Great Halibut and chips in those days if you could afford it!

Is Gainsborough the chippy not far from where the Cecil cinema used to be and you had to go upstairs to eat in the restaurant?
Amazingly there's some very good chippies in Toronto - the 2 best imo are less than 1/2 mile from where we live. One's called "Ye Olde York Fish & Chips" - the owner used to have a business in York city centre in the'70's. Brought his business here via Oz. Added attraction is he serves Tetley's bitter. Become a regular haunt for ancient ex-pats. No patties or scraps unfortunately, and the sod's closed today.

    Yep that was the one.
Having the bread cut diagonally always takes me back to going in there as a kid.

I went for large haddock, chips and a bread cake, with salt and ketchup(I don't do vinegar).

Had a word with Mike(chipmaster general) and he reckons all good chippy's still use beef dripping.

Bob Carvers is near the station and the stuff from there is much better than the greasy stuff they serve at the market.

I'm surprised the Gainsborough went, it always seemed packed.

Been said before, but I understand this is a dirty Leeds idea that spread.

Hull used nut oil which, of course, is correct.
