By my definition if the following happens this weekend then we are mathematically safe.

    1. City win
    2. Crewe and Shrews to get a point each in their fixture.
    3. Stevenage loss to Blades.
    4. Carlisle loss to Walsall.

A lot can go wrong but we are starting to have our safety in our own hands rather than hope for others to do the job. My target for safety was always 53 points and this weekend we can reach that level with still games to play.

    Come on you Reds!

Mike, I have looked at the matches until end of season, I suspect like lots of others like JFG.
With the number of games between the bottom seven and who they all play, I have come to the conclusion that we are already safe on 50 points.

S mall technical point is that we could still finish 21st.

However as previously said 5pm on Friday we will know the picture

    13 Bristol City 36 -5 41 . > . > . > . > max points ...................plyd 42 pts 50............62 after Friday ? 53 points? max will be 62

    18 Colchester .................................................. ....................plyd 42 pts 46 ........58
    19 Tranmere 35 -21 36 . > . > . > . > max points ....... ..........plyd 41 pts 46..............61
    17 Carlisle 34 -18 37. > . > . > . > . > . max points ...... ........plyd 41 pts 43.............58
    15 Oldham 36 -13 38 . > . > . > . > .. max points ...... ............plyd 41 pts 47...............62

    21 Crewe 36 -27 36 . > . > . > . > . > .max points ...... .........plyd 42 pts 43.................55 after Friday... MAX could be 53d 55 WIN or 52 if they lose
    22 Shrewsbury 35 -13 33 . > . > . > . > max points ...... .......plyd 42 pts 41... ..........53 after Friday ...MAX .could be 51d 53 WIN OR 50 if they lose
    24 Notts County 36-21 31. > . > . > . > max points ..... ........ plyd 42 pts 43............55 after Friday should be 52 max as lose to CITY??
23 Stevenage 35 -18 36 . > . > . > . > max points ...............plyd 42 pts 39.............51 Sheff playing for pride only now as cant make playoffs if city win doomed as far as we are concerned

of the bottom 5 Carlisle will escape the others should be planning for Divi 2 footy

I think our current tally will be enough to survive to be honest, but 6 more would be nice to take the nail biting element out of it.

Unlike the Sags, they really are in danger as they have a far harder run in than their relegation rivals:cool:

Relegation run ins are sometimes irrelevant as teams at the bottom are fighting hard, and often, when relegated, go our with a bang. That said, I would rather have our run in as opposed to someone like Norwich.

A nice pair of wins against Notts and Stevenage and it will become an ex-topic

We could actually finish bottom if:
We lose our four remaining games.
Every team below us now, wins every game they play.
Excepting those games where the two teams are below us now are playing against each other, in which case, the home team would win.
So it is possible for us to go down as the bottom club!

But can anyone expect Stevenage to win at Sheff U and Brentford, Shrews to win at PNE, Carlisle at Wolves? Or for not one drawn game for any team currently below us for the rest of the season?
All we need to be absolutely certain are home draws v Notts C and Crewe

Exactly the point I was making JFG. Still slightly nervous but safe.
And I'm not trying to upset anyone. Just reinforcing the fact that we will be in Lge One next season.

I still think a late rush for the playoffs is probably not achievable ......

    Probably not !
Top 10 would be nice, and a little run of victories to end the season.
The business starts for us in August...

They should do what the Formula 1 wants to do and have double or even quadruple points available for the last game of the season. Think how exciting that would be. Every result possible in the last game.

My calculation is if Carlisle lose their game in hand, we're safe.
