The media always talked about the big 5 though not the big 6.If you recall it was us,Liverpool, Everton,Man Utd & spurs who tried to do their own TV deal.I would accept that Villa's profile was just below the 5 <ok>

Point being Spuds were level with Villa.

    Everton were bigger.

Cym, you will remember that we're refering to a time pre Champions lge, pre money dominating everything, pre merchandise strategies etc etc etc, nothing was measured by income streams, sponsorship deals and shirt sales.
Liverpool were a far more successful club over a longer period but I believe there was a time in the early/mid 80's that Tottenham had a profile comparable to any English side and a ground that probably had a similar capacity to the biggest (Highbury, OT, Hillsboro) stadiums in the country.

I would agree that Spurs had a similar profile to other clubs but in your original post you said they had the highest profile of any English club that is why I took issue with you.

Think I said 'probably the biggest profile'.
Either way, Tottenham must have been very poorly managed (on the pitch and off it) to have regressed to the levels they did between the 80s and a few years back....

The 'All ticket' games in the 80's at Highbury were Liverpool, Man Utd, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Spurs

And Spurs were only in there by virtue of being our biggest London rivals.

I would just point out I used the word similar, rather than same. Within the scope of all English clubs, Spurs were definitely a similar club to Arsenal in terms of the categories I mentioned.

The Sugar/Venables spat had a detrimental effect on Spurs
