People are soo rash with their assessments.

Martinez has done nothing to prove he is a top level coach capable of replacing a manager like Wenger.

He's done well at his previous Clubs - but he has'nt excelled.

Even before his acheivements at Arsenal, Wenger did exceptionally well at Monaco (League title and Coupe De France), he also won the League and Japan Super Cup (equivalent of FA Cup) in Japan at Nagoya Grampus.

Now I do think Wenger has lost something over the years but I also think if we are to replace him the replacement needs to be an ELITE level coach. Otherwise we will just be going backwards.

The owners may be incredibly arrogant and expect to be able to control everything in life with money, but I do believe even they will give Pellegrini a second year.

I think City went wrong at the start of the season when they dropped points away from home at bottom half clubs and this was probably a bit of niaivity on Pellegrini's side, but since he got to grips they've been fairly dominant (bar last 2 games).

I did wonder at the start of the season whether a 60 year old manager with 25 years in management who has only ever had one season managing a big club with high expectations (although City are an artifical 'big' club IMO) had what it takes for the demands of the premier lge, I haven't changed my view but I do think he'll get a chance to buy some silverware next season....

Agree with the sentiment here, though it has to be worth noting that RM is a young man that has only been in management 6/7 years, majority of them in the premier lge.
I think he is very very good, he can't be classed as exceptional at this stage but he has potentially 30 years left to prove that he's better than very very good....

    i find these comments remarkable.

He loses a couple of games and suddenly hes not the manager we all thought he was.

But say the same thing about Wengers 6-0 , 6-3 , 5-1 , and we are making knee jerk reactions.

Are you refering to Pellegrini ?
I said I think he was niaive at the start of the season, I also said 25 years in the job and only 1 failed year at a top club, also I never heard him mentioned for the Chelsea/Man Utd job either and given that Chelsea have gone through a manager a year that has to be strange if he's considered a top level manager....

No i am referring to Martinez , i think his credibility as a competent manager shouldnt be judged on the back of a few dodgy games , unless we are prepared to judge ALL coaches thus.

He has done extremely well given the players he has .

Agreed. Martinez is a good manager and he finds himself in a position that he is very new in. Everyone has the odd dodgy result, I think every manager in the league has suffered from one or two of those, including the self proclaimed Special One.

    That's not what Im doing.

The point I'm trying to make is there's no evidence to suggest Martinez would be an IMPROVEMENT on Wenger.

Im pretty sure he wouldn't be.

Of course , there are no guarantees , whatever manager you get .

You can only look for the characteristics that you think would be successful .

    Man management .

    Tactical awareness.

    Flexibility .

Not panicking if a bad run shows up.

    Hunger to win .

Some humility would be nice but not essential. ( i e no Maureens )

I felt it necessary to comment that your list of attributes, could describe some of the most appalling managers in history. Stepping outside football, they could all be ascribed to a leader like Hitler, particularly as you described humility as not essential!

I realize that your post may have been hurried and ill-considered, but I do think it is fairly typical of our situation that people forget the more important attributes that our current manager actually has that need to be maintained.

Such as, international respect and reputation (so he can attract players), An eye for a bargain (because we will never out-bid for a top star), imagination/bravery/confidence to develop/try new tactics because if we play the same as Chelsea and Man City we will get beaten, and above all a thick skin to deflect all the undeserved criticism that will come his way!

    1. Wenger never tries new tactics.

    2. Wenger doesn't spot bargains. He just buys players who aren't worth much because he hasn't got the balls to bit more than £40m for someone like Suarez. Who have we bought for "peanuts" exactly who was clearly worth more than what we paid???

man management ...........poor , doesnt know how to motivate the players for his OWN THOUSANDTH GAME . !

Thrashed SIX nil by the guy who called him a failure..., if you cant motivate them against that guy what chance have you got .

Flexibility ......nothing needs to be even said

Tactics..........naive at best , negligent at worst

Hunger to win ....he pays lip service to it , but doesnt practice it.

i merely answered you comment on mine , i will NOT get into another anti wenger argument on this thread .
