    When is his contract until?

Yes, obviously, he should/must stay at Watford. A good striker in this league is invaluable, where would we be without his goals? But what if he gets injured or can't hit a barn door next season...

However, If you were him you would want to play at the highest level, wouldn't you?

If he has no desire to play for the club, not like it appears at the moment, then he unfortunately might be on his way.

A fine balance for him too maybe after seeing how many splinters Vydra has got recently.

Here is one from left-field, but I have always liked to travel. Do the Pozzo's think he can cut it in La Liga or Sirea A?????

2016 so a while yet but I agree - heads do get turned easily.

I suspect if Deeney did go it would be to stay in England.

Certainly Alex J is one to look out for in terms of goal scoring and hopefully the others will get a chance.

From what little I've seen of him - mainly on the telly playing for Braintree - he still has a bit of a way to go. Overawed was the word that immediately sprang to mind, but then he is only a kid.

Looking at the Braintree team for each match, it's not that he's had much playing time either. I did think when Mensah got injured, he'd get some more time.

On the rumours site and on the Watford side there is talk of premier league sides coming in for Troy Deeney which is fair enough. A proven championship goalscorer like him is going to attract big attention. In my view this is where we find out the resolve of the Pozzo clan, do they really want us to get promotion or are they in it solely for the money. I can't see any player coming in who could better TD's goal rate so, do they offer him an improved contract or simply cash in. I'll be very disappointed if he goes and it would show a lack of commitment from the owners. On the other hand, if they strengthen the squad with TD at the helm it should make for a very interesting next season,
    Anyone agree/disagree?

If I may say so, that's a pretty daft question. Which scenario would make the most money - selling Deeney or getting promotion to the EPL? If clubs come in for Deeney and he wants to go, both highly likely, then the Pozzos would be stupid not to capitalise on his value. We all know that to hang on to a player who wants away is short-term and highly destructive to team morale & performance.

Not necessarily Vic, look at Rooney he wanted away but got the improved contract and I thought out of all the Man U players he was the most consistent.

Deeney will be gone...he wants to go, and we'd be wrong to stop him. To be honest, watching him, good as he's been in the last few weeks, he has shown lately that the lack of pace has really let him down. I know, that's probably controversial, but if we'd had a speedy striker we may have scored more, and yes, i know...23 goals this season etc, but he could have had more, especially in the last few games, he certainly had his chances against QPR and Derby, it was pace that let him down.

I don't think it comes down to resolve. If an offer comes in and he wants to go, then you sell him at the toil of his value. Next summer there will only be on year left on his contract and his value will therefore diminish considerably, even if he has another good year. So then we are hoping he wants to stay and sign a new contract which he may not want to. This isn't a Pozzo thing, this is the economics of football ever since the Bosman ruling. The played contract is a diminishing asset, the less time left, the less transfer value. The only thing that would drive value up later in the contract is competition for his signature. A very risky game to play.

My hope is that Deeney WANTS to stay, and will be looking for a contract extension before the end of next season, otherwise, IF we do get a good offer, I think it is very likely he will be off.

In fact.. so many typos I have resubmitted :)

If we do sell TD can we make him sign a promise that he'll never score if he plays against us? We should have done it with Super Kev.

True, seriously if he wasn't playing well at the moment though just think how bad we'd be. What a screamer last night!
