This subject was mentioned in regard to Steven Gerrard recently and I'm sure that I heard that the 'totting up' rule was reset at a specific point in the season. If so, does the same apply in the SBC. I'm thinking specifically how this rule might apply to our very own midfield talisman Joey Barton, who is three short of the next suspension milestone of 15. Can anyone shed any light on this matter?
There is an amnesty for reaching 10 bookings (which would usually be a 2 match suspension). There is no similar relief for those who get to 15 bookings (3 match ban).
If he doesn't reach 15 by end of Barnsley game, he will be ok for Playoffs. If he or anyone else get booked in both playoff semis, they will miss the final if we make it.
Jamie Vardy was on 9 bookings but I heard that they were wiped out before our game at Reading on Monday.
Col A part of it is quite simple really (I think!). Upto 31st December, suspensions were in place if you received 5 (one match), 10 (two matches) ,15 cautions (three matches) etc. After that date, if you were booked for the fifth time in January no suspension was imposed as ten cautions then applied. At a date sometime in April, the suspension for reaching ten cautions was removed but is still in place if you reach fifteen. Therefore, if JB was to receive cautions in the next three games, he would be suspended for Barnsley & play off semi finals. If he was to receive his fiftreenth caution at Barnsley, he would be suspended from The semi finals & final if we are in it ( if we're not it would be for the first game of next season). Now it becomes harder! IF we finish the Barnsley game & JB has less than the fifteen cautions I have no idea if any cautions in the play offs would be added to his season's tally or whether they are treated seperately. Knocker is sugesting that they wouldn't be added & that to miss the final a player would need to be cautioned in both semi legs or sent off, either in the first match (three match susepnsion) or the second match (one game suspension). I have no reason to doubt knocker on this, so as long as JB only plays in two matches before the end of the league season & avoids being sent off, he will be available.
