Forking hell, I was paying £19 for sky unlimited until the contract ran out, I told them I was going to BT and they gave me free broadband unlimited for 12 months so just the £15.50 line rental now. KC is a rip off!

Though for £5 extra it's definitely worth getting if you download often or play online games as with those speeds you could host your own servers quite easily. If all you do is surf and stream then it'd be a bit pointless unless your current connection struggles.

It's a premium product, you get what you pay for. 15 quid with Sky but what happens if you have a problem? You speak to some Indian reading off a script to you who doesn't even understand broadband.

Anyway you're comparing a special offer with a standard advertised deal. KC will probably have some of those 'customer retention' type offers too, but I don't know what they are.

As an O/T to the O/T, I got a new hard drive fitted in my laptop and Windows Home Premium re-installed on it 4 months back. It was ok until the last month but now and again it freezes or I get a blue screen with a load of gibberish on it. I ran the dooberie that checks the hard drive and fixes any faults that are there which seemed to cure it but it's still does it now and again.
Any ideas you technos on here?

In English please because i'm not a techno as you can see

Sounds like a dodgy hard drive, if its does it now again it could be when your laptop tries writing to a bad sector on the drive? that would cause the blue screen.

Take it back and get it replaced, its only 4 months old, it must be covered by warranty?

These things never get better, it will get worse and sounds like something is wrong with the hard drive.

Honestly, make sure you have anything important on there backed up elsewhere, and get it looked at and/or exchanged.

You pay more and have a data limit. Sky unlimited is £25 full price all in if you don't have sky tv, that's with unlimited usage. Sky are also piss easy to deal with these days, no foreign call centres they're all British based and quick and easy.

The competitors are all even cheaper at full price, talk talk is £3 a month for unlimited broadband (excluding line rental). You are getting ripped off, but that because (I believe) you've no choice but to use them. Isn't their copper wire service **** and unreliable as well, so I remember reading a few times on here?

Their fibre optic service sounds alright though and the price is more in line, if still slightly dearer than other providers.

KC Lightstream is by far the most reliable and fastest in the country without question. Dependant on the tariff etc you can get free connection onto it and have guaranteed silly speeds to the property. Also KC are the only isp that provides FTTH as standard, not fibre for a little bit then ****ty copper for the rest

I used to work for Talk Talk and we did unlimited broadband, tv and evening and weekend calls for 7.50 + line rental, so it worked out £22 per month for calls, bb and tv inc line rental.

With fibre KC's deal sounds better than TT's though with the fibre cable going from box to home, the Talk Talk one didn't go as far as the home - I got in trouble a couple of times for mis selling by saying it did!

Don't know much about price comparisons, you probably know better than me but regarding the copper, no it isn't **** at all.

It's actually the fastest non-fibre in the UK, as well as having the fastest fibre.

Some people have this conception of ISPs just being 'down' or the whole copper network being down. That's balls of course.

The thing about copper is it depends on a wiring network inside your home which is beyond the control of the ISP and will eventually go to **** after so many years or decades. There'll always be people out there with knackered wiring in their house. Fibre to the Home will fix that eventually and Internet issues will be much less common than they are now in the areas where FTTH is used.

Is it under warranty mate? If so its a no brainer, make sure they exchange it. Don't forget to back up though, in fact, do that anyhow, and regularly!

Shouldn't take them long, less than a day in fact.

    Good luck!

People on KC Lightstream do often find that the speeds that theu actually get are a lot faster than the speeds we advertise.

In regards to price, which seems to be Mr hats main gripe, you pay for a better product. The same reason why bmw's are more expensive than a dacia, houses are generally more expensive than flats. The service is just better. If fibres in your area then I'd deffo get it

Aye, like the UK's #1 rated virgin unlimited. £7.50 a month with line rental or £20 a month without a phone line. Better product - cheaper.

And I don't see how the copper wire service could be better, specially not £10/15 better. It's extremely limited and all providers make the most of it, except BT who's service is ****e.

The fact is, you pay more because you've no bloody choice.
