The lad has proved tonight against world class opposition that he can score goals.

Well done to poyet for giving him a run in the side (finally)

It's hard to believe altidore got chance after chance when we have wickham who just needs a run in the side.

Well done Connor, you nearly gave us a chance to stay up.

He was outstanding, and if that gives him a boost, then maybe we get goals for the run in.

Whether we have time I dunno, but tonight has given me a flicker of hope, and I'll take that.

Well done Connor, was like watching Higuain tonight.

Well said WP. Only one game but this lad will do it for us. He'll get the winner against Chelsea to make up for tonight's disappointment.

It shows he could be good enough to make it in the prem, just needed a run of games.

I do wonder how we might have done if we have played him right from the start of the season instead of Jozy.

Also Giacc made both goals, this season he has also scored vital goals, but it seems he does not get much pitch time?? I just don't understand it myself.

Couldn't agree more, the treatment of Giacc by the club hasn't been disrespectful, it's been shambolic.

It also proves the value of creative players like Giaccherini, I hope we go for it instead of trying to play safe in the last five games.

A current Italian International not starting for rock bottom Sunderland. It beggars belief.

This game suited Giacc perfectly, other games he goes missing

he hasn't had a run though, everyone says about Whickham, but why haven't we given him a run?

Seb, Jack, Gardner, Catts, Bridcutt, all had runs of games.

Giacc has more ability than those 5 combined man.

Yeah missing from the team sheet.

Could not agree more, we are just scared of flair players. He works bloody hard too which is more than some others do.

That's true, it's just when he's so ineffective one game he does himself no favours. He has definitely played his way into Poyet's thinking ahead of Chelsea now though.

I don't think I'd change the starting 11 vs Chelsea. Giacc to come off the bench again

You know, he's small, he's came from overseas, he had to be given 8-10 in a row to settle, maybe with a couple from the bench in the mix for a breather, he never got that.

He's still amongst both our top scores AND top assist makers, and he's still expected to go to the World Cup, which says all we need to say about his ability for me.

He could have made a difference, he's not been given a fair crack.

Larsson Jack and Catts (after his gaff) were good tonight. It suited Giacch to come on as a sub but he played really well. Great team effort

I'd still drop O'**** like... but yeah, same team apart from that.

Very encouraged by Vergini last game and a half you know, maybe, just maybe a ball playing CB.

I'd like to see him with Diakite, but too late for that I guess.

Connor, BTW, is now on 12 for the season, admittedly it's manipulating the stats a bit...

Yeah if we had the option to I would drop him as well, no one to replace him with mind.

Vergini has looked better and better in recent games, I was critical of him during/after the liverpool game, but credit to the lad he's shown he is decent. Not sure we'll have him next season anyway as he's only on loan here

He's a free agent seasons end, so I guess it's between him & Gus, but I can see a ball playing CB there, and **** would that be a novekty.

He looks a bit clumsy on the ball but actually isn't, it's just his running style, he could really develop IMO.

Gus definitely rates him, a year in the championship could do the world of good for him physically
