You need a referral to use a food bank. You don't just walk in and say "Here, am pyoor skint man. Want ae gez some free food aff ye?" So aye, I'd like to think the numbers do have meaning. I don't imagine many people like the hassle of having to goto their GP and embarrassing themselves by asking for handouts. I've went hungry a few times but then I'd never take charity from anyone so I've never actually used a food bank. I imagine there's quite a few people with similar pride issues.
Ok fair enough, it's hard for me to understand how people can be that skint that they can't afford a couple of quid worth of food from LIDL. I'm not totally detached from that world either, half my family are on benefits or are close to the minimum wage, and they all whine about money, yes, but none of them are even close to starving - you can tell by the size of their waist...
I help out at a homeless shelter a couple of times a month basically cooking and serving it up. Some of the people are overweight. Should I and the others that help out refuse to let those people eat the food?
Like the benefit system you will get chancers with a brass neck going for their food parcels, like Johno. Imagine rocking up somewhere with a voucher for free tinned food. A score quid in lidl would feed you for a week. I say they deserve it for their complete lack of shame.
But the problem that we're trying to make sense of here is that the people who are apparently starving are the same demographic who are getting much fatter. We have to choose a theory, are poor people starving or is there a poor people obesity epidemic..?
Try living on £106 a fortnight with rising electric bills, rising gas bills, rising food prices and any other **** that might go wrong. Like I said before, I went hungry a few times but mainly because of bad luck (Like when my washing machine broke down). Thank **** I stopped dealing with those ****s at the Jobcentre before they started getting out of control with sanctions, otherwise I'd have starved much more often. I agree that a lot of people are naive and shop in places like Tesco, Morrisons and to a lesser extent Asda. When they should really be making use of shops like B&M, Aldi, Lidl, Farmfoods etc. You also need to remember that not everyone has family or people to count on for a hot meal. Apart from anything you've readily admitted on here that your family are prone to the occasional benefit fraud so it wouldn't surprise me if a few of them have illegal sidelines as well. The obesity argument is ****ing stupid. There are more obese people because we are eating less and less healthy foods and more processed ****, especially the poor.
Up your mothers rancid ****ing **** you ****ing mutant. **** off down to your junky mates house for a night on the vallies you ****ing wreck of a human being.
Anyhoo...I don't know, the food banks are obviously a last resort for the majority, It must be absolutely humiliating to some people but of course you will always get a few chancers when something FREE is on offer, it's human nature. I personally can't think why anyone would want to check people's BMI before giving them food though. As has been said it is not unusual to see totally skint fat people or fat people on the dole, people sitting about the house all day will put on weight, especially if they are eating the cheapest ****tiest scoff available to them.
Wisne that when awe yoos ****s were pissing and moaning about potato blight . Infact your still bleeting about it to this day . Your foodbanks were nations who had moved on fea the middle ages
Can you imagine the beel on here if they did? Mind you, people like me and Gambol would be doing everything possible to get signed up...............
What do you actually have to do to get onto the free grub? Is it just tinned stuff and the like or do the give you a voucher for the Butchers?
I think you have to declare your income and they then make an assessment on whether or not you qualify. Some of them will give you meat as well as tins and boxes. Yes - I have just checked on google.........................
