So lfc fans.. you've laughed off the anger of rival fans using suarez and others as excuses to have a go.... what do you think of his lordship garry neville proclaiming that mat jarvis should have exaggerated and fallen over last night to get his pen?

Jarvis himself says he needs to "be clever"

The PFA are up in arms saying refs should give pens even if a player stays on his feet... strange how this lot never speak until an english man is wronged or a foreigner can be lambasted byt i digress.

In short are they all hypocrites or is kevin friend just a ****e ref?

i honestly think that's the issue, the English media dont want to be seen criticising an English player, but a foreign player is fair gain as far as they are concerned.

also i think there is a lot of ****e refs.

I was away over the weekend so missed the debate over the dive. I think he did dive on this occasion (Demichelis incident) but I imagine the reaction was funny as **** and when you look at the fact that he didn't go down easily and tried to stay on his feet in the box (Kompany) but was denied a penalty then it makes it even more laughable.

    Did you see the incident?

It was a clear foul by Sagna but Jarvis struggled to stay on his feet instead of hitting the deck.

Outside of the area the referee would have probably awarded a freekick irrespective, but inside the box he was never going to give it.

So Neville wasn't advocating a dive, he was saying the lad was naïve for straining to stay on his feet.

He should go down," said the former England defender. "You can either be an angel and do what Matt Jarvis did and you can get a pat on the back off his nan when he goes home, or he can win his team a penalty.
"A professional in the game will say 'you've got to go down'. The referee won't give it if you don't go down. It's a foul.

Easy decision if I had my way. Play advantage. Player stays up. Shoots, doesn't score. Ref goes back, awards penalty.

I totally agree with Neville. I don't think you are doing whats best for the team by not going down in that incident. Hes right about the refs too, they don't give pens unless you go down so staying on your feet when you get contact like Jarvis did is also not very bright.

Of course- diving can backfire substantially. I recall the 2007 Champions League final. Kewell's tendency to dive, instead of staying on his feet, cost us big time.

Kewell loses tackle and blatantly dives to the floor instead of backtracking and helping out defense. This course of events leads to AC Milan's 2nd goal and almost certainly cost us the game. OK... it was nowhere near the penalty area- but still was a dive, and had he stayed on his feet and harried (forget who it was for AC) then the goal might not have come- Milan couldn't have rested on a lead after that. (Opposite of 2005- think we were the slightly better team for much of 2007 final).

i am referring to how jarvis did not throw himself down with contact thus exaggerating... ie he didn't therefore is a non dive and the ref therefore without a flopping fish to help him decide it was apen... failed to give the pen

    ergo non dive
