Sagbo also proved in the first half of the season he's up to premier league level. He's not a goal scorer but his ball retention is excellent, he's imposing against some of the world best defences and he brings others into the game. Every club like ours needs a player like him who can help relieve pressure and bring something different. Fryatt may be a championship player, but he's a top championship player and as we're not a club able to stockpile top quality strikers he is as good a back up as we could possibly wish for and I sincerely hope he signs a new deal and doesn't go off in search of guaranteed football, which if he did I wouldn't begrudge him for. Besides if we do end up qualifying for the Europa league he'll get his fair share of game time anyway.
I agree ref Sagbo, but for me he's got to work harder upfront in chasing down defenders when we don't have possession. Take a leaf out of Long's, Jelavic's and Fryatts book!
McGregor and Harper: fine Elmo, Rosy, Dudgeon plus one other full backs Chester, Davies,Bruce, McShane centre Brady, Huddlestone, buy Livermore, Meyler, Quinn, Aluko, Boyd Jelavic, Long, Fryatt, Sagbo Maybe 2 or 3 players more spending depending on the Livermore price. Looking good for next year already. Any more Irish lads to get? Maybe some frees from Sunderland?
You could make a case for Livermore against Cleverley - the former is stronger and more authoritative, the latter a little tidier on the ball. But I'm sorry, you can't compare Meyler to him. For all Meyler's energy (and he has played well for the past month), he's very limited on the ball.
I agree about Livermore and disagree about Meyler. He gives you something Cleverley doesn't. Maybe not the best technically on the ball but overall I'd choose him for the other aspects of his game. Plus he chips in with a few goals.
I'd hardly call myself a "Meyler basher" - I've picked him in my top three for MoM a couple of times lately. I just think he's good at making the most of his abilities but they have a limit.
Meyler always strikes me as one of those players that has short spells of quality during a game but largely does nothing. Then he will pop up with a goal and everybody rates him again. I'm still not convinced he is a long term answer.
How many Ryan Giggses are there out there? A very special talent with a great fitness regime (hard training plus intra-family shagging).
Come on, you're kidding yourself if you think Meyler is better than Cleverley. It's like comparing James Chester to Alex Bruce.
We are not comparing Chester to Bruce. I asked who you would drop in our team to accommodate Cleverley. You said Meyler. I disagreed. Meyler offers more in our current team than Cleverley would. I wouldn't have Fellani in our team either come to that.
