I agree that Walcott is a very good player but personally I don't think he is right for Liverpool. He does have a history of injury problems and that seriously worries me. From what I have seen and heard he appears to want to be the star player. We already have our stars (and developing stars) and I feel that is attitude may upset the squad. Sterling has the potential to develop into the first and only Sterling. Only time will tell how near he can get to fulfilling that potential. As for our Geordie visitor last night, all I would say to him was look around you. The times as Dylan said are a changing. It's not just Liverpool who are part of that change. Fergie has gone and Wenger is on his last legs - both United and Arsenal have sides who's major flaws are becoming more and more apparent. Everton, on a miserable budget, have a very good young manager who is getting the best out of them. Southampton have had a disturbed season but have a very exciting squad and an interesting manager. City are now the major force in Manchester and are likely to remain so for more than just a few seasons. However, some things never change. Newcastle keep shooting themselves in the foot with such regularity that you can almost set your watch by them. In the time since Arsenal last won a trophy Newcastle have won exactly NOTHING!
Walcott is a great player these days when fit... We're getting Kono though... aren't we? ARENT WE EDIT: I'd like to see Theo and Raheem race actually. We all know about Theo's exceptional speed but I'm starting to think Sterling is the next best thing pace wise... maybe Navas. Watching him chase long balls the past few weeks... his pace is frightening.
While Walcott is a good player and would definitely improve our squad, realistically where will he fit in? I wouldn't want him here if it meant he gets a starting berth ahead of Sterling and limits his development. Besides which, his surname doesn't begin with an S.
Walcott would fit in any side in the PL IMO, he is a class act when he's fit, though that's the main problem, he's very injury prone. I don't think Arsenal would be willing to sell, and Walcott doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would try and force a move, he's not a mercenary like a few of the others who've left them. 20 million is knowere near his value in the market either, if I where selling him I'd want atleast 30 million for him, the guy is a real game changer for Arsenal, and I don't think there title challenge would have collapsed the way it did had he stayed free from injury. He's a big loss for England in the WC too
It's weird, but what you've written here could be describing Sterling to a tee this season. Look at his goal against citeh again to see what I mean
Right side of the diamond for me with Sterling at the tip. Cout on the left and Gerrard at the base, for some games anyway. Brendan would make sure he worked his socks off when we didn't have the ball and he's got pace to help cover that side. Henderson out there for games like Chelsea or City where you need an engine.
I wouldn't touch Walcott with a barge pole - injury prone and on over £100k a week! That is criminal and almost as bad as giving Johnson the same amount. Take away his pace, and you are left with nothing.
No, but one swallow would give me a smile for a while. Currently? Well, we are higher on the table than them. Historically? It's pretty bloody close between us an Utd. We have won more trophies than them. (maybe not PL- but UEFA, Champions League, League Cup, Super Cup, etc- and PL we're not far behind). Futureally? (yes, it's a word... as of now) I'd say for the near-term future we're in better shape... anything beyond that is hard to predict.
So you are admitting Sunderland is a far superior club to Newcastle then. They have a century of richer history, more Division 1 titles etc.
Good lad. I thought the Liverpool fans back in the day were fantastic. I've had many a happy time at Anfield, usually on the losing side. My favourite time was the FA cup game around 84 when we had about 12 thousand down, cracking day despite the result for the return of Keegan. I did a parachute jump for the Hillsborough appeal and raised £400 which was a tidy sum in those days. As I said, I've got a lot of time for your fans, not sure if the younger ones are of the same calibre though. Last night was a bit of an alcohol induced moan. Take no notice.
Should stay off the Babycham. I've been watching Liverpool since 1962 so I, like many others, know all about success and (relative) failure. I know what you mean about younger fans, though- some of the ones on here are terrible........
