Rodgers; Your opinions please?

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by ProjectVRD, Apr 14, 2014.

  1. Nah. A plan b is altering things or trying something different. Changing the system or even a like for like player can do that.

I love Moyes, he's one of the best managers ever to work for Liverpool FC.

    Speaking of plan b's...

In the second half, did Rodgers make a conscious choice to sit back more, were the players just tired out from the first half, or did we feel we were good enough to soak up their pressure and counter attack them? Maybe all three. I was gutted to see how less attacking we were in the second half because, being City, you can't sit and soak up their pressure for 45mins without something giving.

My mate, who isn't a Liverpool fan and prefers European football (namely German) said we basically made City look ordinary in the first half. We did. Then we let them back in by not being relentless in the second half.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or being negative, I'm made up we won and we deserved the win, but I was scared ****less in the second half! Could Rodgers have played the second half differently? Will he learn from this game for next time?

I think it was an attempt to sit back and pick them off with a lightening quick counter. It was risky considering Man City are a fantastic attacking side, and then we conceded the momentum.

But also, we didn't get the 3rd goal to kill the game. It gave City a chance ...

Have you not noticed this a few times this year, I assumed it was the risk of such effort put into the first 40 or so.

Not such a worry if 3+ up or against a less attacking side. I suppose it's the evolution of Brendans plan A, blitzkrieg to get ahead then try and control and counter. Never going to work as well against a side like city but still better than going 1 up and trying to hold.

This way the attack mode is never totally switched off so if the opposition come back we have something left in the tank to go again.

    Dunno.

Yeah, we've done it plenty of times...but never against a team as good as City, and only with a two goal advantage at that! That was my worry, it was City.

Was it an overestimation of our defensive work by Rodgers?
    An underestimation of City's attack?
Blind hope that it would work?

This is why I ask. Interested to see why other people think we changed at the half.

Whatever is said the fact remains you have got a great young manager. One with a plan, something new for British managers still in the game.

Considering some of tge dross you have had, I bet you you are all giddy as **** about the possibilities ahead.

I hope one day we get Klopp and Liverpool remain on the up. Imagine it :D

For me, from day 1, I was impressed with Rodgers . Sure he came across a bit David brent'ish but he seemed to ' get' Liverpool straight away, even bringing back red nets.
Always impressive in front of the press he never seemed to get rattled and the players looked happy.
I think he has surprised nearly all of us in how far he has taken the team, not just this season but from, well when he signed Sturridge and Couthino .
He seems to be very tactically aware but I am sure he would be the first to admit he is still learning. I'm excited about where he can take us and just hope that he can get the players he wants in the summer and not keep missing out on targets because of someone penny pinching.

IMO I think it was being caught between two minds, respond to the City tactical change or continue knowing that if they kept attacking like that we'd get more chances. Maybe a wee bit of a gamble but we did miss some chances....on another day it could have been 3/4+ plus before they started scoring...

Other than bringing Allen on earlier I'm not sure we could have changed much to anticipate the comeback without encouraging it anyway.

I'd take competing against any open attacking club for the title. United have always been one and get rid of Moyes and you will continue to be. Always better than that Chelsea crap.

The ironic thing, of course, is that he learnt alot of his trade from working abroad and then under a foreign manager! <laugh>
