I'd rather have some of the passion and positive stuff that Cotts says than the clueless mumblings of the previous incumbent and the awful performances and results. SC isn't Jose Mourhino which is why he's managing a 3rd tier club, but compared to what we were like 4 months ago I'd take him every time. 2 defeats in 11 games has seen us climb away from a trap door that I for one, was convinced we were going to fall through and under SOD we would have.
'I'd rather have some of the passion and positive stuff that Cotts says than the clueless mumblings of the previous incumbent' And me. Hey, we could go on MasterMind. Specialist Subject - Stating The Bleeding Obvious.
Rp, you may be alright on Mastermind, whats your specialist subject, apart from stating the bleeding obvious, i know, lets all have a guess, my guess, Who's the greatest manager of all time, ME
Rickster, don't get emotional. Nothing to do with liking or disliking (better than hate). The bloke is simple, end of. I laugh at his interviews as though he's just invented the wheel. He's another like Stuart Pearce. Simple Thats what they said at Forest I say football management is not just about chess tactics, its also about turning mortal men into physical obsessives. Shankly and Fergusson were not the most astute tacticians the world has seen, but I wouldn't mind half as good a man manager That is SC's strength. Dicks was no tactical genius, but he made those red shirts dance all the way to the top div.
i cant believe we are saying top 2 or else already, it aint gonna happen IMHO, lets be patient and hope we keep Baldock, get paterson and hope SC gets in some more proper signings, but pleeeeeaaassseee be patient. We all want to get promotion of course but its our own over expectation that has got us so bloody down and miserable most of the season and this hasnt helped the team either. i said it at the time of the play off against Hull, lets hope we get promoted then take the parachute payments and build, but if we lose then we may have years to wait again, then after the game and into pre-season all the "automatic promotion" next season started and this then led to the over expectation, and look where its gone from then, this then included fans moaning at top 12 finish in the CC, wow them were the days hey? then we hounded out our best Manager since AD, and ok i was a GJ fan and all who werent will have a go at me for that, but i said when everyone asked for his head, "be careful what you wish for" and look whats happened since, we heard the stories of fighting/arguing in dressing rooms, player revolt, GJ losing the dressing room, well none of us know for certain, but i think GJ was a strong manager who all the following since havent been, which has caused our disgust at the players efforts over the last few years, i spoke with a City player just as SC arrived he told me the players were ****ting themselves, because they had heard SC was a hard no nonsense man in the dressing room!! well i wonder why? Thats my opinion, im not for one minute saying that i am right, its only MY OPINION, so i am interseted to hear yours but please be nice
'fighting/arguing in dressing rooms, player revolt, GJ losing the dressing room, well none of us know for certain' Ishmael Miller and Paddy Madden might.
Christ tell Wolves fans after the relagation they would hope to return to the championship, but hey we may be here for a few years. They expected a return at the first attempt and they did it convincingly, why because this league is crap. City fans should expect a return next year, and if not then they will be here for years to come.
Wolves are a giant club.. the fact you try to compare us to them in any way shape or form is silly. They took 9,000 away fans to MK dons. We just about get 9,000 at home games.. Not to mention they kept some of their players from their championship and even premiership days, FFS they had a striker who cost them £2.5 million who couldn't even get in the starting line up.. Many respectable managers in this league saying league 1 is a much harder league these days, even your best mate SOD said so.. You'll listen to him right? If you think we'll be in the top 2 next year by a click of the finger you're in for a culture shock..
Nice, thought out response there.. but with the players we have at our disposal this year, our finances, our incompetent board.. no we aren't. Remember this team has been in the relegation zone from August to March. Do you honestly expect some fairy (rod) to sprinkle some magic dust over ashton gate and make us world beaters next season??
Seriously if we are not top two next year, then we will be here for quite a while after,SC will want success next year, every city fan should be hopeing and praying that promotion comes, there will be no better chance. We take excellent followings even in this league when we are at the top.In the championship big followings were normal over the first two years. I have said for years we are a club that has huge potential bring success and the crowds will flock.
RR i think ALL City fans do hope and pray we get promoted next season, thats a given, all we are saying is just because we are one of the bigger clubs in this division, we have no divine right to do it, just because we want or should do! lets HOPE we come out of the blocks flying next season after having a very productive close/pre season under our belt and carry on where we left off and blow everyone away. I think we all believe that we are a mid to lower championship team at least in all honesty, dont we?
Regardless of who is in the division next year, and what playing staff we have, we should look to be making the playoffs at a minimum. We've had our year of adjustment to get used to the 3rd division again, so the expectations will naturally be raised by a few notches. I'm not expecting a top 2 finish, but it would be very nice...
I can't believe what I'm reading... Perspective is a fine thing. League 1 is a walk in the park if you compare it to the Premier League, but when you are as weak as us we'll do well to be mid-table in League 1 next season. Truthfully, SC will not be targeting promotion next season, for these reasons: We're still not safe in League 1. We're a team that has sat near the bottom of the table since the start of the season. Us going on a promotion run next season is like Hull City getting into the Champions League next season... True to form, I think a lot of people will expect Lansdown to slash the playing budget again. Now that we're safe the "five pillars" will make an appearance again, and I'd be surprised if SC is given much of a transfer budget. The club hasn't experienced a good pre-season, nor a good start to the season in a number of years. We have few players in our books any more that will remember what winning at the start of a season feels like. It'll take a lot of work to get the first few wins of the season. History tells us that we'll be in this same position next year, with a new manager. The board talk about a long-term strategy, but all evidence suggests that we hire for the short-term. I don't doubt that SC will say that we're targeting promotion, but I would be surprised if he believed it, and even more shocked if we were even close to a promotion-chasing outfit next season. The most shocking thing is that, after such a poor season, some people on here think we'll get promoted next season. It makes me wonder whether some of you actually attend matches...
I am expecting next season, If we stay up, to build and be around 10th-8th and to do well in the Johnstone paint trophy, If we go down, to do a wolves and go straight back up.
We are not going to be relegated this season! Where we finish next season is another question that at the moment it is not possible to answer.
