What a clown, I bet Rosie gets paid well for this one. Kevin Doyle is wanted by QPR as a permanent signing in the summer. Boss Harry Redknapp revealed he wants the Wolves striker for next season after his earlier than anticipated recovery from a knee ligament injury. Harry was originally told Doyle would be out for up to six weeks after the 2-0 win at Birmingham on March 8, but was pleasantly surprised at the forwardâs anticipated return to training today. The manager is now salivating at the thought of the Irish international linking up with Charlie Austin as early as the away game at Leicester on Saturday. When asked about the chances of a permanent deal for Doyle, Harry replied: âAbsolutely, definitely. We're looking to get him involved in the run-in and it will be a good bonus for us. âIt gives me an attacking option. I could play him with Charlie; they both work hard. He could also play wide for us as well.â Doyle took a cut from his £40k-a-week wages at Wolves to make a loan move in January, and scored on his debut inside seven minutes against Burnley. He then added a second for Rangers against Reading before getting crocked at St Andrews. The 30-year-old has another year to run on his Wolves deal, but they are willing to let him go for a fraction of the £6.5m paid to Reading in 2009 that will help lighten the wage bill at Molineux
I'm sure I'm not the only one getting a little fed up with the constant moaning we see in your posts, Flyer old mate. Doyle's a good player, he's always done well whatever level he's played. By the sound of it, the injury wasn't anywhere as serious as first thought (because I doubt he's suddenly developed amazing recuperative powers). If he's fit, he'll do well for us in this division. If we go up, I'm not quite so sure, but he's done it before, and Harry can be the judge of whether he's fully fit again and worth a punt. At some point, Flyer, you're gonna have to give the team-bashing and player-bashing a rest. although I guess that will be in the summer, when we all get a little stir-crazy...
I'll continue to bash when the idiot in charge wants old league 1 standard players on 40k a week only to play them out of position. Do we need to get younger? Is he worth 40 k a week? Will you be happy with him as a winger?
Dunno his wages, but if Flyer quoted that he took a pay cut, it must be true. However, to answer your questions Flyer: Do we need to get younger? - Nobody's getting younger, as I well know. However, I want players that will do a good job for us - irrespective of age. He's one - wherever he's played in the attacking half. He wouldn't dislodge a fully fit and firing Austin, But he's still good - as good as any other options we have at the moment. And he's far above a league 1 level. Is he worth 40 k a week? - he's not on 40K a week, so your question is irrelevant. Will you be happy with him as a winger? - Cutting in from the right? Or the left? Lofting balls over the top for Austin, or curling the ball into the top corner? Yes please. As I said above, I want players that can do the job for us. and he counts.
Doyle played wide many times for Ireland and did a good job but I'm afraid he's not even half the player he was then. Its hard to believe it was only three or four years ago Wenger tried to sign him for the Arsenal.
We will see, he's missed more than half the time through injury, old injury prone expensive and past it. A typical Redknapp signing. If he's far above L1 level, why did a L1 team refuse to play him?
Payment clauses. You say yourself above that they wanted him off the payroll, so money had to be a factor (else why mention it in the article). He's a good player at this level, which is where we'll likely be next season due to the lottery of the playoffs...
It sounds like Harold is planning a future that's more worrying to me as I was really looking forward to him leaving the game Doyle absolutely fine as a signing IMO He works very hard and is a good player IMO No room for youngsters at the moment until this club stabilizes and then you introduce them at a controlled rate
Would you want him in the PL? He hasn't reached double figures in the last 5 years at any level. Zamora actually has a better strike rate in that time despite playing at a higher level.
What a boring post- you've taken a benign article and managed to turn it into an anti Redknapp thread. This is an unhealthy fixation flyer; it's slightly spooky.
Same old flyer negative, didn't Beth put up positive threads only, obviously you don't listen, think the mods should ban him.
Doyle's been poor here in the Championship, why would Harry want him while we still have a chance to go up? Sorry, he's just not good enough, sign someone young and promising.
Hmmmm, you naughty monkey Flyer. You've twisted your own highlighted comment. What Harry actually says is he can play with Charlie and then says he could play wide. That to me shows he's thinking of other options and could provide cover in the wide position providing versatility. I'm no fan of Redknapp and he's made some appalling decisions but it's important to keep things accurate whichever way we sit. If Redknapp twisted an account as you have you'd be on him like a rash!
Flyer was that your title ? If so that poor quality Journalism, taking what the man said out on context, he was pointing out the player is versatile. It's like - Flyer wants old League one for QPR, silly really (possibly a poor example but you know what I mean) Having said that I tend to agree that Doyle was a short term solution, could possibly work in the Championship if we were to off load some others on higher wages but wouldn't be my choice, I see him as a backup player.
This story seems to originate from a local black country paper, the Express and Star. I have no reason to doubt its integrity, but have any of our usual sources also run this story? http://www.expressandstar.com/sport.../04/14/harry-redknapp-wants-kevin-doyle-deal/
