with Palace at home to Liverpool and Man City in their last 2 games - could Punch be the deciding factor? not to mention their next game at Everton to decide the last top 4 place.
He's certainly been the deciding factor in Palace staying up. Makes the paltry fee they paid for him look even more (or less, depending on your point of view) impressive.
They did excellent business, we did poor business. He is a really good player in this league. Sometimes I look at our bench, and really do think we are missing a player like Punch. He chips in a few goals, and they always seem to be important ones - most are match winning ones. Good luck to him and Palace.
Puncheon was inconsistent, but could be a game changer. Shame to let him go, but I believe he wanted to (?)...though it looked like he wouldn't get much game time.
I suspect he thought he wouldn't get much game time but actually he might have got quite a lot as it worked out. How many times have we needed the something different that he offered?
I thought he wanted to go due to family issues? All of a sudden we have gone from doing the right thing to doing bad business; or have I got that wrong?
I find myself hoping for Palace to win every weekend now. Maybe they could take the players who leave us this summer and slowly become Southampton B. Mayuka Bolasie Guly Puncheon Jedinak Dikgacoi Ward Dann Hooiveld Mariappa Speroni Now there's a likeable team.
Punch has had a huge impact at Palace. Take nothing away from Pulis, but Punch has been creator and executor in that team at crucial moments, and more so since Pulis's arrival. He is a true game changer, just like he often was at Saints. He wanted to leave to get regular starting football, to be nearer his family and plus, and it was a huge plus, he got to play for the team he supports. If we did poor business it is because Cortese made it possible for Palace to afford Puncheon, so that he could get his wish. He wasn't just a hard nosed businessman. He knew about dreams.
My point really was that, this was the 'saving face' story even if it was true and I have no reason to question that it was. But I really doubt he would have been allowed to leave (nor would he have wanted to) if he and the Saints management team thought he was going to play regularly.
Could say it was good business to give him another contract and get something for a player coming out of contract.
The "family stuff" is genuine, so I've heard. Anyway good on yer, Jason. You'll always be a little bit of a Saint.
The Title should be "Jason Puncheon to decide the Premiership, fourth place and Relegation Places" He has won alot of points for both Saints and Palace!!!
