Hi Scousers, Swans fan in peace. After a mediocre first season in charge I was just curious about how you now felt about your manager, I would like to know even if some of you may have wrote him off expecting his style would not suit the club.

Here in South West Wales I think most of us knew he wouldn't manage us for long and that he was destined for a much bigger club, but I admit I had no idea that he would make such an impact in just two seasons.

Unlucky yesterday mate. The two best managers in the PL this season are Rodgers and Martinez and we were interested in both of them.Shows we were barking up the right tree.

Rodgers has been nothing short of staggering. Most important trait - he learns from his mistakes. Good luck staying up.

Agree on how he learns from the mistakes. Also think his tactical vision - versatility, adaptability, player selection - are important attributes as is the attitude he has instilled in everything about the club, players, fans, management.

I remember his press conference after getting the job, he promised "relentless attacking football" and that bold statement impressed me, the fact he has managed to fulfil that promise in 2 seasons is incredible imo.

Impressed mate. I wanted either him or Martinez mainly because I felt we needed a whole new start with a young manager who wanted to play the game in a certain fashion.

Not only does he seem very adept at getting the most out of the younger players he's also handled the experienced pro's equally as well. It can't be easy trying to put your mark on a club when you're not a great deal older than the senior pro's (ask AVB) but he squeezed a few good months out of Carra last season and has rejuvenated Stevie G too.

He has faults of course, his transfer record is still suspect as far as I'm concerned but how much of that is down to him and how much down to the "committee" I really don't know. What I do know is that a manager who can get the best out of the squad he already has is a massive advantage when transfers are so hit and miss. The players all seem to be enjoying his style of play and the way he's sending them out and he's won over even the most sceptical of supporters.

His biggest success so far though in my eyes was his handling of Suarez after the bite last season and then during the summer shenanigans. Sending him to train on his own pre season was a massive gamble for him. A sulking Suarez could have completely destabilised the squad and ultimately cost BR his job. For me it was his defining moment so far.....I hope he has an even bigger one for us to talk about come the end of May <ok>

Couldn't be happier with him - he just ticks all the boxes for me and what we are producing this season is just incredible.

Always happy with Rodgers, but never in a million years dreamt that he'd have us in the position we are in now so soon. I thought at best we would be in the top four in three or four years, not two and never mind the title.

All those manc and chav fans must suddenly feel a little stupid for their criticism of him last year, especially after the documentary. David Brent, huh? You'd ****ing love to have him now though.

Call me romantic, but I don't see him being tempted with a move away from the club yet either - even to one of Europe's big clubs. I think he'd like to stay here another few and see what he can do so not even his contract bothers me yet. I've no doubt he'll sign on for another 5 years in the summer.

Title or no title, fantastic season, hopefully he can keep on building. I've no concerns this summer window either, I'm confident that Rodgers knows the type of player who'd best fit into the team.

    <ok>

I was adamant we made a poor choice and should have brought Benitez back in, but Rodgers has developed the style in how we play. From somewhat slow possession play, to attack at all costs and then attack some more. This season is a great success, even if we don't win the league, but it will be a big test next season, as expectations will be to qualify for the Champions League again and compete on more fronts.
Credit where its due too, that it is all done with an English core.

To be fair, we were decent in the second half of last season too. We couldn't recover fully from a disastrous first half.
I had an open mind about him at the beginning, but you can't fail to be impressed with what he's done so far.
The real test is can he keep it up?

I would have preferred a more experienced and qualified manager than Rodgers. But he is proving to be one of the best signings this club has made in decades.

He is now up there with the brightest, talented, young managers in the game today - Simeone, Klopp, De Boer.

His best attribute - he is a bloody good coach. Managers are mainly expected to run the club, bring in players and adopt a style. Rodgers is a coach - he makes players better, similar to Rafa. Look at the team this season and it's mainly players from last season bar Sakho and Mignolet.

2 of the best signings this club has ever made are Sturridge and Coutinho (January 2013). Since they came into the team, we have been brilliant and it's no coincidence.

  14. Rodgers wasn't my choice, I wanted Rafa back. However, I forgot about that as soon as Brod was announced and he's had my 100% backing since.

He was criticised for having no plan b last year but I think this year he's learnt and got a b and c for if a (getting it to Suarez) isn't working.

Still think biggest test is next year when he has to juggle more than 1 comp and needs to show he can add quality to the squad after a few iffy signings.

Overall though, win or lose the title guy has been 10/10 this year.

  16. Is someone going to bookmark this thread for this time next season? If we win the league then expectations go through the roof.

I wouldn't say he has a plan b or c. I just think he has made Plan A so bloody good, but he also has different variations of it.

    He's crap!

    RODGERS OUT!!!! BRING BACK WOY!!!!!!!

Seriously though, OP, claims he had a mediocre first season. First season as a whole, perhaps; however, first half of last season was worse than mediocre- it was terrible. Bodger's first 6 months were statistically not much better than Woy's. The last half of last year though was brilliant.

So by my account Rodgers has 6 months of crap settling in, and then 18 months of pure inspired geniousness...

... yes, I wanted Rafa back too when we lost Dalglish. Rodger's is doing a good job though... most likely better than Rafa would have done, and certainly more entertaining to watch.

  20. Of course he does. We maintain the possession passing football but we switch systems with ease. We've played 433, 4231, 41212, 352, 442, 4411, etc this season and all have had a degree of success.
