No I can't. let me explain why. His first mistake was taking the job as he really did not understand the unique spirit that lies at the heart of LFC. With the exception of say Celtic (though thank God without the secetarianism) and Everton there are no other clubs in the UK that have the same type of relation between club, players and supporters. We are not talking here about a small section of die-hard supporters. You really have to be part of it to understand it and adequately explaining it is almost impossible. Add to that he either did not listen or was badly advised on just how bad the financial situation at Liverpool under H&G really was. He proved that he could not find a way of motivating the players. Now if you look at the comments made by individuals both during and after his reign, none of them have ever bad mouthed him but the results that he managed to obtain from those players was dire. The style of play that wanted the team to play was alien to all of the principles of pass and move that the club has grown up on. Everytime he gave a press conference he drove a deeper wedge between himself and the supporters. He did not give the impression that he did not care about that - he just did not understand. When the takeover finally came, the new owners gave him time to start turning things around but he did not take that opportunity. Given all of the above, that is why I believe that the job was too big for him. I have no hatred fro Hodgson, he seems to me a nice man and I wish him well at WBA but I am SO glad that he is no longer associated with us. You ask if any other manager could have prospered in the circunstances prior to the takeover? My answer is truthfully I don't know.
No, I can say without fear of contradiction that Liverpool have a better Squad than us. But yes, Manchester United's Squad is considerably better than Liverpool's, even if you took out 5 Players. Not quite sure how you would replace Vidic, he is phenomenal, but Berbatov, Valencia, Park, Carrick, Smalling and Owen have the quality, experience, know-how, track record, and they slot into a Team with very few weaknesses, so the loss of the 1st XI Player(if they have such a thing)doesn't heap pressure on the replacement. At Liverpool, the replacements in the Squad are not in the same class
David Schofield. I agree with your point...except about Carrick and Owen. Owen is a sick-note that started one league game.Carrick will be found out this coming season as Paul Scholes has retired.Carrick is not even mid-table standard,He's not even Everton standard. He's West Ham standard and they are in the championship. He's the most one paced, one dimensional midfielder in the premiership by a mile. He's also slower than a week in jail, and his passing is remiscent of a Man United legend...Ray Wilkins. He like Wilkins passes the ball side ways and backways.Rumour has it that the last time Carrick made a successful forward pass,he was playing in West Hams youth team.
Not his biggest fan either, but he has played 350 Premier League Games, and has won it 4 times, plus 50 appearances in the Champions League, and won it once. And he is a perfect example of what I am talking about, experience, know-how, track record, and considered by all of us as a Squad Player, give me an example at Anfield that could justifiably be called a Squad Player with a similar pedigree? That is the depth I am talking about, and that is the level it takes to win the Prem.
And also, you want a player in our squad with a similar track record to Carrick? How about Joe Cole... 7 years and 3 PL titles with Chelsea. Besides which, Carrick isn't a 'squad player' at all is he? He starts basically every game for Utd.
You've said you support Stockport, but haven't addressed any of the other points I raised in my post.
Have you seriously just suggested that Spearing has more experience, know how and a better track record than Carrick - this was the question he asked ?
You again? You're on our ****ing board you moron! Is that some kind of joke? Spearing is better than Carrick, not Xavi. Have you got that... Carrick is NOT Xavi.
No, but he's a better player Poulson has experience, know how and a better track record than Carrick. I'll let that one sink in...
Instead of selectively replying to posts that suit you (by which I mean, those that you can reply to with a 'smart' quip) how about reading the rest of the posts, particularly those made by myself and Raaaul and responding to those?
What suggests he doesn't have a good track record? He's played at Copenhagen, Schalke 04, Sevilla and Juventus racking up 50+ appearances at each. If that's not a good track record then what is?
