It might please the fans (though not all by a long shot) but it wouldn't please the club. It's in Newcastle's best interests to have Sunderland in the prem, and for that matter boro too - and vice versa. Not only is their a financial advantage in local teams being in the league (higher income and lower expenses) but the more teams that are succesful in the region then the more chance of attracting good players, especially from abroad. I also don't think any professional manager would ever want to lose a game, no matter what the consequences of winning. That said, I still think you need more than 9 points to stay up - possibly even as much as 12.
Right now it looks like Fulham will stay up, that could be at your expense, but there's plenty of other teams that could go down as well
bookies are currently offering odds of 7/1 for us to stay up and 1/14 to go down ...not particularly generous either way
All im trying to say with this thread is stranger things have happened. Ive kind of written off the next two games but if we can scrape a win against Cardiff there is every chance we can beat man utd as they've got nothing to play for and a lot of there plyers might not be up for it with a world cup coming up and hopefully west brom and swansea will have nothing to play for so should be easily winable. It aint over till its over.
If we win our 3 home games then we MAY stop up. it's not over yet & hopefully gus picks the same team as yesterday for the last 6 games.
I think 12 points will seal our own destiny and keep us up. With Fulham's games I don't think we've got a chance of relying on other teams. That means we've got to beat Cardiff, West Brom and Swansea and either nick a win at either Man C, Chalsea or Man U, or draw with all three. Big big ask because our survival depends on us to suddenly start scoring.
I said 2 weeks we need 10points & still believe that. 3 home wins & maybe a draw at Man united. Fulham have been lucky & hopefully Stoke, Hull & Spurs beat the ****s.
odds have shifted considerably since the Man C and Chelsea results : currently offering odds of Evs for us to stay up and 4/5 to go down
Cardiff at home and wba will determine your premiership survival, i think you will do it, it may go down to goal difference,
Fulham and Villa are the great escape artists over the years, so don't rely on them slipping up. Palace at Fulham will give them a game alright though. Arsenal might need a point at Norwich in their last match, I reckon Fulham to beat Hull, i take us to beat Cardiff and Swansea, but I think 1 win and 2 draws will keep us up. but I thought Palace were down about three weeks ago !.
I said we needed 4 wins and well we got 1 at the weekend. 3 wins at home now against opposition in the same boat as us.
