<peacedove>Boss who could enter final year of his deal as Reds' first title-winner in 24 years is seeking to change by-committee approach.
Strengthening his grip: Rodgers will demand more say on who comes and goes

Brendan Rodgers will demand more control over transfers when he opens talks about a new Liverpool contract at the end of the season.

And the Reds' boss hopes he will be negotiating from a position of strength by landing the club’s first title in 24 years.

Liverpool are within touching distance of a return to the Champions League with a top-four finish. But they can land a massive blow in their bid to win the Premier League against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool’s transfer business is currently done by committee. Rodgers works in tandem with chief executive Ian Ayre, head of recruitment Dave Fallows and Michael Edwards.

But owners Fenway Sports will have to change their US recruitment model if they want to keep Rodgers, 41, happy.

His current deal enters its final year this summer and Liverpool will not want negotiations to drag on for hot property Rodgers.

Not with Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan possibly looking for new coaches in the summer.

Frankly.... Depends.

Who picked coutinho, who picked sturridge

We know who picked Allen and borini

Who the f thought aspas Moses and cissohko were right?

I mean frankly it could be better IMO but we'd have to assume that with TIME Rodgers will have realised the calibre of player required but also that this more control would allow him to secure a salah type through increasing his bid to get him quicker?

Improvement in selection and in process is required but is it right to give it to Rodgers? From the outside looking in I can't say

What I can say is over bidding will be bad especially if the player quality involved is dodgy... Allen 15 mil v salah 13 mil or whatever was needed assuming he'd not been tapped up by Chelsea all of the time anyway

Rodgers says he has been watching Coutinho's career for years so I reckon he picked him.

Just hum picking and Ayre running over the contractual elements, and sign off from a yank rep who should be based in Liverpool.

He was also at Chelsea when Sturridge was in the youth team, so he probably picked him too, IMO the manager should always be choosing the first team transfer targets, but it up to the club what price they are prepared to meet.

It never did work like that. No manager has the time to view every player who might be of interest. He needs people who he can trust to assess potential players against criteria that they have agreed. In today's market there is no way that a football manager can get his head around all of the niceties of commercial contracts or negotiating techniques. It has to be a team effort - committee if you like. Now within that committee the manager must have the power to say YES or NO to the player but not the contract.

I do think managers need some help. Otherwise the work load will become to high, become a strain and effect results.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he should do al the donkey work, like scouting and negotiations but he should be telling the scouts what kind of players he needs and he should have the final say once a target is identified. Wages are difficult because bringing someone in on big wages can upset the other squad players so I think the manager needs to quantifying how much he thinks he is worth to add value to the team.
