Mid 80s, first match of season at Notts County, we were all herded into one pen with 3 spare pens separating us from the opposition fans. Never been so crushed, and we jumped over the metal fencing despite warnings not to by the police and ended up filling all the. Spare pens.

No trouble but a lot of animosity v the police

The 80s were a time when fans, clubs and police learned a lot through bad things happening. Unfortunately some don't seem to be listening or learning .

I'm not going to say too much on the subject, but I've always believed the right of anyone to have an opinion, even if that opinion seems wrong.

But I will add that it's unfortunate that the same clubs supporters were involved in an equally tragic event and that was Heysel.

Don't get me wrong Shaks I will defend anyone's right to have an opinion that I don't agree with. It's the labelling of "Victimpool" and suggesting that a mark of respect for 25 years since this tragedy happened is pandering to them that I disagree with. In my eyes it doesn't matter who's fault it was or wasn't 96 people died, and even if it was the Liverpool fans to blame, the ones who died weren't the ones piling in at the back.

At no point did I suggest those killed were anything other than innocent victims.
Anyway back to your excellent match thread. 2-0 Leeds

That's fair, I didn't mean it to sound like thats what you had suggested glory mate, it was more my overriding opinion on the end that last sentence. <ok>

I'll defend your right to a differing opinion to the death good sir, but you're wrong about the score <laugh>

Your not the only one who had a few scrapes years ago, but in this I have a different opinion to you. Perhaps old age has caught up with me more than you. Can we leave it now?

This reminds me of the England v Germany game at Charleroi, a Belgian craphole, for the Euro 2000 game. I was there courtesy of Fujifilm, along with around 10 other journos from the photography press, and the Fuji PR people. All was well until we were herded around the side of the stadium towards our entrance. It wasn't a narrow concourse, but there were a lot of fans there and we suddenly came to a halt with masses of people in front of us. Looking up we could see there was a 15 foot high metal mesh fence running directly across the concourse blocking the way. It had lots of gates in it, but they were all shut except one, so the police on the other side could search everyone coming through one at a time. Unfortunately, hundreds of fans were still being sent around this side and they rapidly packed in behind. In just a couple of minutes it went from being an inconvenience, to a crush. I looked left and right and could see we were bang in the middle, there was no way to get out or move. I started jutting my elbows out to try to keep breathing room but one of the PR people was a woman and by this point she was crying hysterically, even though the other guys were trying to stop her from being crushed. At the front of this, the crowd rapidly changed from shouting insults at the police to screaming that we were all being squashed and to open the gates. As more people piled in behind I had this horrible feeling of dread that it was going to turn into a disaster. Thankfully, someone in charge behind the fence made a snap decision and ordered all the gates open and to get everyone through as fast as possible. Within 30 seconds we were moving and I was thanking my lucky stars. For the record, it was a dire game, which we won 1-0, the only England victory at a dismal Euro 2000.

Was at that game, remember people going over the fences.
Things have changed since in all aspects, some good some bad.
Personally hate the seating, don't see how standing can not be made safe.
Sadly will never happen due to hillsborough, heysel (common theme?)etc.
