Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has admitted star striker Steven Fletcher is unlikely to play again this season. The 27-year-old Scotland international has missed the last four games with an ankle injury, but Poyet hoped to have him available for the final few games of the club's fight for top-flight survival. However, after weeks on the sidelines, the prospect of the Sunderland star being able to make a return to action during the final month of the campaign looks increasingly remote. Poyet said: "He's still injured and I don't think he is going to be a possibility now. I have been changing my mind about that because we were trying to push it, but we need to be realistic as well." Fletcher has not featured since limping off at half-time against Crystal Palace on March 15, and Sunderland have lost all of the games they have played since, leaving them staring relegation to the Championship in the face. The Scot, who was Sunderland's leading scorer last season, has managed just three goals to date during the current campaign.
What's everyone's thoughts on him if we're in the championship? You reckon Gus will keep him? Yes from me.
Yeah wouldn't be surprised Indy, it's no surprise that when you look at our squad a fair few have been part of relegated teams
Wouldn`t be surprised at a miraculous recovery at the end of the season. Just in time for a move. Not being cynical or owt like.
to be fair since that injury playing for scotland he has never recovered fully,it could spell the end of his career in the top flight ,could be another gordon.
He's done nowt wrong except get injured, so he's a defo keep for me. Remember that class goal against Fulham at Craven Cottage as an example of what he can do fully fit. Hopefully, he will regain full fitness next season...
I'd keep him personally. I'd like to think because he's done **** all for us, he might want to help us get back up next year. If he's fit and interested, he could be a real asset next year (providing we do go down). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves for a couple of mill to another relegation battling team next season.
Paid £12m we'll be lucky to get £3m cash. Imagine any deal will include appearance/goal clauses so we maximise the potential of any deal. He'll already be gone, his head will be at least.
Did the ankle, came back and did shoulder, did ankle again when not fully fit. I would call him just plain unlucky or a victim of us rushing him back.
