I don't think it's even a contest. Carroll is a thug compared to our cultured Rickie. Look at WHU's goal against Liverpool. What kind of a player does that..? Ridiculous. So WHU scored with a refereeing error because he couldn't see Carroll leading with his arm. Is that how England are hoping to score in Brazil..? I don't think so, do you..? :)

Mind you, a lot of Chairmen panic and it rarely does any good. Nicola is an exception...sacking two good managers and subsequently doing even better.

Talking of healing wounds. Just watched the Newcastle goals again...can't bear to see Jay's happy little face :( Mauricio says JRod is at the training ground from 9-4 working out...the op will be done when the swelling is down....he says Jay is in good spirits. Must be coming to terms with it quicker than we are :(

It is a pity that the neggy hit squad are already picking on him, it is not as if this will serve any purpose, if Artur is unfit, there is no choice but to play Gazza, and in that case we should be encouraging him, not slagging him off.

Agree 100%. Against City only one of the goals was in any way his fault, and even that one could have been prevented by better defending. Plus, he made at least two really good saves.

Yeah, Jay is supposed to be a really positive chappie. He's said so in interviews before [without moving his lips, naturally] and I knew he'd come to terms with it fairly quickly. He's going to get plenty of chances to represent England, and I wouldn't have said that one year ago, such has his progress been at SFC.

Personally don't think he's anywhere near Premiership, or even Championship standard but I for one will be giving him 100% support tomorrow if he plays tomorrow.
Incidently I had him down as responsible for 2 of the goals?

I thought the whole team was at fault for all of the goals. Pretty much everyone could have done something at some stage to stop the buildup to each of the goals. It's a team game.

Sometimes you just have to credit the opposition. If Luke Shaw had put in a cross like Kolarov did for the 3rd we would be admiring it and wouldn't think twice about what the goalkeeper did or didn't do.
In his pre-match interview he said the goalkeeping coach said his decision was correct but his reactions were not quick enough. As a keeper for every goal you're going to think you could have done better, but the whip and pace of that cross was so good and he had to come out as staying on his line would of been futile.

On his progress, in the december games he seemed incredibly hesitant to leave his line. Against City he was out a bit more. Against Villa and Spurs he conceded goals from headers from within the six yard box and made no attempt to get the ball before the striker. So I take his actions to prevent the cross against City as a plus.

The clubs policy is against the loaning of players but I just don't think that works for a goalkeeper. This kid needs game time as his decision making is his biggest weakness and you just don't get that truly tested on the training ground.

****ing hell, just had the strangest of calls. Someone has told me cardiffs team for Saturday.

Been told they will be playing an inept defence, an anonymous midfield and an irritating forward line.

Worst of all their chairman will be wearing a red Cardiff city shirt that is well tucked into his trousers.

Well Gazza wasn't going to save the penalty. Crappy decision or not, once made, Yaya Toure is too good to miss, unless he gets arrogant. Second goal doesn't matter, it was offside, though he made a creditable effort. The third goal I put down to shell shock from the team to let the cross come in, and a little bit of inexperience from Gazza. He could have deflected the cross, but he got nowhere near it. The fourth goal I don't even care about.

I'll put him down for half a goal. Big deal, he's up and coming and not perfect. He pings the ball out like a world class midfielder. He's worth the extra effort provided we can protect him.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but it tickled me so thought I'd put it here. In the BBC built up for the game:

"It was a bad day all round for Mauricio Pochettino's team, with the manager so annoyed about an incorrect call giving Manchester City a 2-1 lead, he briefly answered me in English during my post-match interview!"

So when Pocha gets angry he speaks english, interesting :)

It's worth watching, if only for the bit where he calms down enough to revert to Spanish.
