A very telling interview and he doesn't rule out leaving Arsenal to win something with another club. Also talks about us not having the right players to win a title and that we should be buying better quality. Talk about not committing your future with Arsenal. Santi Cazorla interview: Desperate to finish his career a winner http://www.sport360.com/article/eur...-interview-desperate-finish-his-career-winner “I want titles and that is why I came to Arsenal,” he says. “Every football player wants to win titles. We’ve gone many years without winning one. And if not, what I’ll look for in my next destination is to have the chance to win. “I don’t want to close doors, but nowadays I’ve a contract with Arsenal for two more seasons. When I’m turning 31 I’ll evaluate myself and I’ll choose the best option. In which case, I would be delighted to come back [to Spain].” The Gunners have endured a torrid couple of months with their European exit at the hands of Bayern Munich compounded by some harrowing drubbings inflicted by their title rivals. They now find themselves struggling to cling onto fourth place in the Premier League table following a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to fifth-placed Everton at the weekend. It has further reinforced the theory that Arsene Wenger’s side has an inate propensity to implode in high-pressure situations – a notion Cazorla struggles to dismiss. “We’ve been unlucky in several games. We had a lot of chances to win against Manchester United and there was Ozil’s penalty (against Bayern),” he says. “We couldn’t recover after going out against Bayern in the Champions League. “And the defeat against Stoke finished us. You can’t lose against Stoke if you aspire to be the next champion. “We haven’t got a winning mentality and we have to believe in ourselves (more). Sometimes you can get used to not fighting, but we can’t do that. Arsenal is and will always be a historic football club, we have to look forward.” By that Cazorla means everyone at the Emirates Stadium – particularly the club’s board who he wants to see invest heavily in the summer as they bid to close the gap at the top. “Arsenal has everything to win,” he adds. “History, infrastructure, an incredible stadium and great players. “But we have to improve at crucial moments and sign the best football players because if you don’t do that, you may lag behind others. “That is what makes it different at other clubs. You’ve a good example in Manchester City who signed Fernandiho, (Alvaro) Negredo... or even Manchester United with (Robin) Van Persie and (Juan) Mata. “Arsenal know what they need next season, but it’s almost impossible to win a title if we haven’t got these kind of things.”
I'd imagine a few Arsenal players feel how he sounds here. Only two months ago you were top of the league and fighting on three fronts. After your annual implosion you are hanging on for fourth, that is not good for player moral. Least you still have a chance of the FA Cup though, getting that first bit of silverware for such a long time would give the squad a big boost IMO.
He just comes across as very competitive and it sounds to me like he's happy to see out his contract. He makes good points about adding to the team and hopefully the rest of the club have the same mindset.
This is also why Wenger needs to go, he doesn't change his ways, and this summer if he doesn't go on a spending spree, he will lose the dressing room, who are clearly asking for new world class signings to win things.
Im sorry but this is the thing that annoys me about footballers and especially some of our players, they're the ones on the pitch, so how about you actually start performing and bit better and more consistently and actually win a trophy instead of blaming everyone but yourself, and that goes for all the players we have had in the last 8 years.
An fa cup win and a couple of quality additions in the transfer window and moral will be sky high in the dressing room. It's funny how the mood can change so easily. I think it's good that the team want new additions and have a strong competitive edge.
“We haven’t got a winning mentality and we have to believe in ourselves (more). Sometimes you can get used to not fighting, but we can’t do that. Arsenal is and will always be a historic football club, we have to look forward.” Doesn't sound happy to me! Sounds like a veiled way of saying this Arsenal team aren't fighters, and aren't winners.
TBF, a few of them have looked at themselves over the last eight years; Fabregas, Song, RvP, Nasri, Clichy, etc have all won things in the last eight years But seriously, I agree with you. It annoys me when players speak out when things aren't going to plan. But then, it annoys me when they speak out sounding over confident too. Laundry should be done in house, leave the talking to the manager.
I pretty much agree with everything he says. We've been mentally weak and played atrociously lately. I'd rather hear someone saying we need to buck our ideas up rather than the constant drivel coming from Arsenal.com. In fairness he's saying "we" not "they" so he's including himself in his criticism.
Does it really matter what he says? Wenger's not going to listen, Olivier Giroud spent the vast majority of the summer window saying we needed a striker, Wenger didn't listen then, Mikel Arteta spent most of the offseason saying we needed a few more players, all we got was Ozil.
Let's face it we're not great, but we're better than any of the other dross that he's played for over the years. Which trophy winning team would he get into anyway??
After listening to his interview this evening on sky it does not look likely that's going to happen,he talks about keeping this squad together, learning from the mistakes in the big games, getting back to basics and spending not always being the answer,a changed man eh!.
It's the same old tired rhetoric he always uses. Means nothing now. Full of hackneyed and cliched phrases picked from the famous book of Wenger quotes, mental strength, must fight harder, spirit, quality, etc etc etc.
What's that reply to do with what I said,no one expects him to bad mouth players, anyway its not his style to do that and never has been,he was giving his opinion on what needs to be done to rectify the meltdown against our main rivals and transfers are not high on his agenda as he believes it can be done from within with what we have got.
