I'd be very surprised if we are in for him, he's nowhere near as good as he was with us first time round and we could get better for very little.

Young players with a future is what we should be looking at...Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea (currently on loan at Boro) would be a good signing..he was immense for Watford last season.

Sheffield United played a few reserves last night so Steve Bruce switched matches and attended Barnsley v Burnley. Did he go to watch Burnley's Danny Ings?

Defence should be a priority. Left back, right back and a centre back all needed. Another tricky wide player would be on list. We've really missed Brady and another centre midfield. Obviously make Livermore's loan permanent.

Think Ings is out for the season - injured versus Leics the other week. Vokes out for season also if memory serves me

Ings played last night against Barnsley. He's fit again.

I'd take Cleverley. Not good enough for Manchester United or England, but we're miles behind them in terms of ability.

Still young, English and an improvement on Meyler, Quinn and maybe Livermore. Would definitely have him for a reasonable price!

If that is the case, Cleverley would be an ideal replacement, someone who'll do the running for Huddlestone so to speak.

Think we could do with another creative midfielder as well as Livermore or his replacement though!

I'd say a a left back would be my first priority, I'd like to see someone in to challenge figgy through his last season or two and it would give us a chance to get Dudge out on loan and hope he can kick start his career again. Nobody really springs to mind though.
I wouldn't mind either Byram/Trippier at the other full back position, or Maguire in the middle. He's got Davies/Macca/Chezzy all in or approaching their prime to cover him with experience, it would give him the time to flourish at this level he may need.
Livermore should be first on the list for the middle, and if I'm being greedy I'd like a creative player through the middle and a tricky winger for out on the right. Regardless of whether they would improve us, I don't think Holtby or Cleverley will happen, Hughes at Derby is someone I thought the big clubs would have snapped up by now. Perhaps showing a little initiative, getting a bid in early in the summer and hoping they don't come up might be the secret tonic (and about £8m).
Stay a couple of places above the bottom 3 and set up a final date by the end of the season and we'll have a better chance than ever to plug the few gaps in our squad with players at the right age with the potential to grow with the club.

"Jack Colback and Phil Bardsley have both rejected new contracts at Sunderland & are set to leave the club in the summer as free agents."

Would we be interested in any of these? Colback looks decent when I've seen him play, not too impressed with Bardsley.

Maybe Bruce wants us to buy a guaranteed England International.

We could do worse than Colback if the price is right. He'll never be a world star, but he can play a bit.

If he joined us he would no doubt be overlooked for subsequent England squads!
