Brilliant news. So happy to see all this good news happening to the city of my birth. The Sleeping Giant truly has awakened!!
Because there's a site ripe for development and a £30m arena would be a great way to get the ball rolling and to encourage complimentary developments alongside it. Though it's probably in the city's best interest to have it in the city centre.
It's good news but we need jobs not buildings. They are the only gamechanger. How much demand is there for a venue of this type?
Why? They are saying that the offshore wind industry is going to be as big for Hull as the Oil and Gas was for Aberdeen and I would suggest that Aberdeen is more properous than either Edinburgh or Glasgow, in fact I would say it is more prosperous than most cities in the UK.
The trend with these arena's seems to be to have them sponsored and named after a large company. First Direct Arena Phones4U Arena The O2 Arena etc Who can see you sponsoring one in Hull, and/or who would you prefer to see sponsoring one?
Its a good point, the big artists won't play at Leeds, Sheffield and Hull, they tend to spread their shows around the country. If the Arena in Hull only holds 8,000 they'll choose to play Sheffield or Leeds because they'll make more money, both would have at least 50% greater capacity.
None of those because the customers that use the arena are far from their target market, their money would be far better spent advertising elsewhere.
Do we need it though John ? The KC has been a great venue in the past. Shame it has not been used for a while.
Its expensive to hold concerts there, most made very little and some even made a loss. Plus the market for stadium gigs is relatively small compared to arena gigs, the Leeds arena has something on practically every night, you'd be lucky to get two or three stadium gigs a year.
AP was exceptionally unlucky that it pissed it down for almost every open air concert and most lost money (IIRC). The RL didn't help as the concerts had to be arranged around their games. Worth trying again with right artistes.
