Luiz and Motto are different players that bring different things. Motto isn't capable of scoring some of the goals Luiz can for instance and Luiz is a bigger threat in the air. Plus Motto is much more experienced in that role.
Let them hate, all I remember was the second half where Luiz was single handedly bossing the midfield. Like Jose said 'David Luiz was a monster'
Agree. He was very good for 45 mins, covering an incredible amount of space. Jose definitely had an agenda singling him out in the press conference. He does everything for a reason, probably because Luiz had lost confidence after being subbed at palace and his travails in Paris.
Another great European night for us. We started off flat and looked rather bereft of ideas, with PSG being in control and looking comfortable. I didn't see us being able to manage to get through and when Hazard went off injured I thought that was it as it would be too difficult without him. Then we undo them with a long throw and the substitute Schurrle gets the goal, which not only gave us all a mental boost, but seemed to cause a measure of doubt amongst PSG's play from there on. Luck played a part in the decisive goal with a deflection helping it on toward Ba, but when you're putting balls into the box you'll get chances one way or another. Feels fantastic being in yet another European semi-final. Hoping Atletico Madrid and Manchester United can make it through tonight.
Went to all those Liquidator apart from Napoli away! Remember the away game in Bruges where they scored direct from a corner. The ball went straight from the corner flag into our net without touching anyone! I was right behind the goal when it happened! Never seen that happen since!
If only ! Actually lying in bed with a serious head cold coughing my lungs out. A tad less glamorous but still enjoyed the win.
Wish I was!! Come on Drogs, Luiz had a great 2nd half and with some support could be a very very good player for us.
He had a great game mate, just don't see why he gets constant praise from some people when his last 'great game' was against City away.
It is because many posters have been arguing that Luiz should be played at CM, so when he has one very good half (after two stinkers v Palace and in Paris), they are out in force. When Luiz plays well in CM consistently, for a long period of time, then we can claim he is a good CM. I hope his poor concentration does not stop him doing this; like when he gave the ball away horribly in the first half leaving Frank exposed, who had to commit a tactical foul that got him a yellow. You saw Frank sigh after that one: imagine if that card gets him banned thanks to David's carelessness. It was the fourth time in the first half, David allowed Lavezzi and Lucas to get behind him. In the second half he was superb and covered an incredible amount of space and ground when he was the only CM. And crucially did not give away silly free-kicks that lead to goals (goal 2 in Paris) or give the ball away cheaply (leading to Terry's poor header for goal 1 in Paris). I have a feeling David will always lose concentration whether at CB or CM. Position is not necessarily the issue. He can be superb at CB (Munich 2012 on one leg!)
He has his bad moments does Luiz, but he has been chucked between two positions all season, less in the latter half. People will jump at him on every mistake, but when he plays well, like he did against Paris, the guy deserves some praise. And yeah I always give Luiz positive review, why because the guy always tries to win and wants to win, something that is very admirable. In Paris last week, it was his wanting to get the ball back and get us going that led to a needless foul that gave PSG the second goal, but he repaid that by setting up our first the other night. And I can't help but love the way he was winding up Cavani.
Agree. His flick for Schurrle was great. I just think that the commentators, pundits and fans who have already told themselves that Luiz will be a great CM are slow to criticise him when he plays this position. And many are the same who are all over him when he makes a mistake at CB. If Terry makes the same mistake at CB it gets little MotD analysis. (I am not a Luiz hater at CB btw) However if Mikel and Luiz make the same mistake at CM, you know Mikel is going to get it more than Luiz
