I'm just interested to hear other peoples' opinion on this as I believe Shaw will move to Chelsea this summer. To be honest, for the money rumoured (£25-30m) I would probably sell him too. He's a great player and I would be happy for him to stay but £25m could buy us a world class replacement AND the striker that we are so desperately in need of.
I think he'd be better off at United. Going there now could be just the right time. hashtag 'hopehedoesn't'
I know a few United fans who are actually very confident in signing him. I just can't see past the 'him being a Chelsea fan, Chelsea wanting him, Ashley Cole nearing the end of his career, Chelsea being in the Champion's League, Mourinho being his hero, Moyes losing control of a once-proud club and losing respect game by game' factor.
If he goes to United I'll eat my hat, then admit I was wrong and worry about how we are going to splash our £30m.
I see you are back and you still don't know what you're talking about. Have you decided to put your money where your mouth is yet? The offer is still there. I'll repeat it for you. "OK sunshine put your money where your mouth is. I have £100 which I will donate to Men United the Prostate Cancer charity if a single one of the three named players signs for united this summer. If you think it will happen then I suggest you wager £100 for the same charity that at least one of them will sign for your lot. We know these guys well enough to know that they don't want to go anywhere but if for some reason that view changed then United wouldn't get a look in. There is only one club Shaw will go to and they play in blue and as for Schneiderlin he will want to maximise his chance of an international call up with France so he would be off to join Wenger. Lallana isn't going anywhere. He could have joined a PL club when we were in league one but didn't so why would he leave Saints now when he is team captain, is off to Brazil, and is playing in one of the best sides in the PL. So bugger off and only bother to come back when you have something to say and you know what you are talking about."
Listen, I have posted above that I think if he leaves, he is better off at United, but why come on here and start posting remarks like that with no justification or reasoning. There is nothing in there that is cretinous. You can of course feel free to disagree, but please do so in a reasonable and decent manner. You do yourself, or your fellow fans no favours.
I cannot see any logical reason for him to move to United other than tradition, playing with a few aging ex-stars, and playing in a great stadium. Ward-Prowse, Chambers, Reed and Shaw have been playing together for ten years. And there are others like Sinclair and Mcqueen who could make the grade. We essentially have a bunch of 18 year olds who have played more games together than most Premier League XIs. The potential is frightenting. Imagine them all staying and improving as individuals and as a team every year for the next ten years. Luke will know all this, and not take the decision to leave lightly. Having said that, if Mourinho wants him he's Chelsea's. Can't see him going anywhere else.
It'd be interesting to see if he'd choose to go if he got as far as entering contract talks with someone like Chelsea, but I can't exactly see him demanding a transfer, and therefore I'm not convinced it'll even get as far as us accepting a bid. So on balance I'd bet on him staying.
Don't judge United by the 8 months or so of this season. They are the outgoing Champions. they are going through a sticky spell and there was always the possibility this would happen after Sir Alex, but they are still a great club just having a blip. I hope it is a long blip, but I doubt it. If Luke went to Chelsea, he'll have to displace the other lad who is having a great season. If he goes to United he'll have to displace an aging, moody Frenchman who is out of contract anyway and definitely passed his best. He could go there and within a year or two be apart of a re-emerging United team pushing to dominate again. I just don't see left back as a key need to for Chelsea today, certainly not at 25-30 million when he needs to spend close to double that on one striker. Oh and maybe the small matter of 50-100k a week might tempt him too (although he can get that at Chelsea too).
Chelsea have Aspilecueta. Do they need Luke? Do we need the money? & above all, does he want to go? Let's just keep him, it seems the simplest option
I this is the whole point. If Luke goes, he will miss out on the only chance he will ever have to play Premier League football with players he has literally grown up with. Southampton's Golden Generation, if you will permit the comparison with what Fergie achieved. And with the addition of a couple of quality transfers in the areas we are thin on the ground in, we will have a squad which can challenge for top honours. I agree that if Chelsea can match our valuation he will probably go there, but the staff at St. Mary's will have pointed out to him what he will be giving up.
