Chadli looks strong, but is weak from all the evidence i've seen

Weak in a defensive sense, yes. He's a bit of a pretty boy. However, he looked useful driving forwards in central positions. His pace could result in petty fouls from the opposition meaning bookings and freekicks in dangerous areas.

Yeah he does. But if it wins us free kicks where "Christian Beckham" can step up, then I'm all for it! <laugh>

Good to see our faith in the lad is paying off, eh Roo? Still some work to go but the lad is winning the fans over.

SoS and Roo > Porto's scouting team <laugh>

    Drives me mad that does.
Defenders should be bouncing off him into the stands when he gets moving.
Wish I could find that Ronaldinho vs Terry CL clip to show to Chadli.

Bit of a coincidence you mentioning that, was literally talking about it down the pub to a few mates last night, we were discussing who we thought was the best player they'd ever seen and I was harping on about Ronny and then mentioned that move on Terry. It's not often you see Terry flattened.

What astonished me is that Terry was attempting a snide shoulder check too.
Ronaldinho just ran thru him, and the contact didn't even put him off balance for the shot
    that followed.

That's the one (snidey Terry epic fail) . :)

If I was Spurs coach, I would have Chadli doing 30 mins of running
at near full speed towards other players tasked with barging him off the ball
    like Terry tried with Ronaldinho.

I would be doing similar with Lamela in training games too.

why possibly risk injury to other players? An hour or 2 a day of running into a wall should do it

Just stick him/ them on the weights an extra 30 minutes. Leg presses and leg curls to improve his leg strength to help keep him balanced and then do some shrugs and maybe a few dumbbell raises to improve his shoulder strength.

    Bang, sorted.

Get SoS for strength and conditioning coach :D

Given that some ITKs are suggesting the weights regime may be contributing to the
worse than average injury list, I think not. :)

And weights do not simulate the physical disruption of the barge.
Tis the contact and trying to keep going without falling away / to ground that
you want the player to become conditioned to.

Its the mentality of being prepared to take the hit and stay up as well. Many players will see a barge coming and prepare to go down upon being hit.

Last game we threw every goal threat we had on the field on the theory that against a team with nothing like that amount of threat the chances of winning a crowd-pleasing game were good. Since it worked, and since it still applies (albeit a bit less), we should probably do it again. Chadli's done okay, I'd leave him in. Lennon over Townsend because he's a bit better, Townsend is too selfish, Lennon does provide good chances more often and because he'll give us some width. Subbing in Townsend late against tired defenders again probably makes sense. The question is who to play in the deeper lying role:

Gylfi: deserves a start, did well in a deeper lying role, works hard and scores.
Paulinho: needs a run of games and will probably figure out how to work with this system
Bentaleb: has been the best in the deep lying role over the course of the year. Both his distribution and his tackling have been better than the others (with the exception of Sandro's tackling).
Sandro: A real DM may be appropriate against a team playing much better than Sunderland. Not so bad a passer, and should work fine in the system.

There's something to be said for dropping Kane and playing two in midfield, but which two remains unclear. I think I'd keep Kane if pressed.

    Walker/Naughton Vlad Kaboul Rose
    Sandro (?)
    Lennon Chadli Eiriksen
    Kane Adebayor

I'm still going with the 4-1-4-1 theory until I see it used! <laugh>

    Lloris
    Naughton Chiriches Kaboul Rose
    Sandro
    Lennon Paulinho Eriksen Chadli
    Adebayor

I'm starting to believe that this was actually in Baldini's thinking with our signings, as they all seem to fit into it.
Replace Lennon with Lamela, Sandro with Capoue and Adebayor with Soldado and we're pretty much there.
Walker in for Naughton and Vertonghen for Kaboul when they're fit and the shape makes quite a lot of sense.

    Lloris
    Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose
    Capoue
    Lamela Paulinho Eriksen Chadli
    Soldado

Width from the fullbacks, cover from a holding player, a keeper playing the high line to compress it and an absolute ton of support for the striker.
Four footballing defenders, wingers that cut inside and dangerous central midfielders.
I can see why our DoF might have thought that this would suit the style of our former manager, though it didn't ever happen.

I thought that someone had ballsed up our fixture time at first, but it's all of the 3pm fixtures, I believe.
    Decent gesture. <ok>
