Racing today comes from Carlisle, Pontefract and Southwell. Welcome all.

After taking the easy way out, and snaring one in a distance event yesterday, I've decided to give it another shot. The 15:20 at Carlisle is where it's at today for me. 26 furlongs with a punishing run home makes for an interesting race. There are only five runners, but some sort of case can be made for them all. The sirens are going off in my head, giving warning of the top one Lookout Mountain. Jonjo (thanks Gaz) horse with AP aboard, it looks like desperation time for the animal. I can almost hear the boss saying, where can we take this ****er and get him another win? "I know, let's try ****in' Carlisle. And don't say a word McCoy, you're riding him whether you like it or not." Problem is, he's only a pup and he's up against a couple of seasoned older bastards in Lively Baron and Frank The Slink who know the place well. Dark Glacier is in with a shot too, but I think the winner will probably come from the other three. I'm scared witless of stepping away from the top one, but I feel I have to fall back on the other two. Frank The Slink is a big robust type who appeals to me, while Lively Baron just seems to keep pulling it out when needed. I'd love to see Frank win, but the Baron's honesty should see him run a very nice race here.

CARLISLE.

14:20 Supreme Asset. Mick.
15:20 Lively Baron. Cyc.
15:20 Dark Glacier. Swanny.
17:25 Bryden Boy. Swanny.

PONTEFRACT.

16:15 Zip Wire. Ron.

Morning, all. Hope everyone well.

The latest supposed ‘reincarnation of Pegasus’?!? Mr Henderson’s SAINT CHARLES. A 4YO son of Manduro he cost current connections £140,000 in March. The gelding has had 2 runs in points unseating first time up prior to winning very, very nicely at North Carlton in February. Interestingly the horse who finished runner-up that day was ridden by the forum’s favourite Corithian, Sam Waley-Cohen, so I’m sure his positive words re Saint Charles were listened to and heeded by Mr Henderson. He’s another Mr Henderson horse bought by David ‘Minty’ Minton and will wear the McManus colours.

Saint Charles could make his racecourse bow at Ayr on Saturday in the same bumper that Mr Henderson ran Sprinter Sacre back in ’10. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more...

On a slow Tuesday morning at work I've just been browsing the old ante post prices for Cheltenham 2015. In the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the bookies seem absolutely clueless and 12/1 and upwards is available for anything you fancy the the moment <yikes> with better prices on Betfair for most runners.
Sprinter Sacre can be backed at 7/2 to win the 2015 Champion Chase with Skybet <ok>

The sirens are going off in my head - they certainly are as the horse is shown in the racing post as being trained by Jonjo O'Neill.
Is he getting tips from the Pipes as to where to run his horses? <whistle>

Just a couple of well-fancied ones for me today, both at Carlisle:

15:20 - Dark Glacier (6/4 best at time of writing).
17:25 - Bryden Boy (85/40 best at time of writing).

I think both should go well on the prevailing soft ground.

Racing Post text commentary really does add a new dimension to "watching" racing - this is their text feed from the opener at Carlisle:

Boric continues to lead
Supreme Asset closing in
2 out
Boric reminders
Supreme Asset looming
Un Guet Apens third
final fence
Supreme Asset goes on --> At this point you think McCoy has got it in the bag, but then ........................
Supreme Asset finding little
Un Guet Apens making headway
Un Guet Apens drawing clear
Un Guet Apens by 3ls
Supreme Asset lies second
Un Guet Apens scores
Supreme Asset very disappointing

Potefract 4.15. Tricky non betting race but can't see why Zip Wire is 14/1.

Still at Ponty, 14.40 looks a decent race. Pity it's 14.48. Will wait to see what won. <doh>
