http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13841169.stm "Neither Chelsea nor Porto have made an official statement about the future of Villas-Boas." If this is true, then I fear Chelsea will become a force again.
This is pretty ****. Hopefully Abramovich cocks things up, though, like he did with Ancelotti and Mourinho.
Based upon what? The fact that he was successful at Porto in no way qualifies him for solving the problems that exist at Chelsea. Additionally he has no experience of the requirements of the Premiership. If this is true, it is a very big gamble by Chelsea
I rate Villas-Boas highly though, coached by Mourinho and Bobby Robson and in his first season with Porto he: In his first season as coach, Villas-Boas set the following records: - By winning the UEFA Europa League on 18 May 2011, he is the youngest manager ever to win a European competition, at 33 years and 213 days of age.[10] - The club record for the most matches across all competitions unbeaten (36). This record was previously held by José Mourinho at 33 matches.[11] Part of this streak was completed by the previous coach of FC Porto, Jesualdo Ferreira. - The most wins in Europe in one season by a Portuguese club (14)[12] - The most points in a 30-game Portuguese league season (84) - The highest number of consecutive wins in the Portuguese league (16) - The biggest margin over the second placed team in the league (21)[13] - The only team to win the Portuguese league without being beaten aside from Benfica in 1972/73[14]. - On 3 April 2011, Villas-Boas won his first Primeira Liga, five rounds before the end, by defeating second-place Benfica 2–1 away at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon,[15] becoming the third youngest coach to win it, only behind Mihály Sistka (1938–39) and Juca (1961–62). It is the second time that Porto won the Portuguese league by beating its rival at its home soil, the first time being 71 years ago, in the 1939–40 season when Porto clinched the title by defeating Benfica at the Estádio das Amoreiras. - On 22 May 2011, Villas-Boas won the Treble by winning the Portuguese Cup, equalizing Tomislav Ivić (when he won 4 titles for Porto in 1987/88), and making Porto the first (and only) European team to win a treble twice (Portuguese League, Portuguese Cup and UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League).
If it is a done deal then I reckon this guy has already expressed an interest in Modric and that the signing is all but a formality, I found it strange a club would sign anyone without a manager, this guy probably agreed in principle weeks ago and has been talking staff with RA. Who knows RA if he has any fkn common sense will let this guy do the job and just support him and not interfere, a long term project is needed by Chelsea to address the oldies and stop the yearly fortune spending, RA may well be looking at other clubs looking to grow a team organically rather than slapping big buys together as that has not really gone well since Maureen left. RA has cost his club dearly with his meddling, dearly indeed, at least one premiership crown and possibly a CL title too, will hte numpty learn that managers are not to be treated as he would his red block lackies
A very good friend of mine is Portugese - though he supports Sporting. If he were here, he would say the same thing that I am about to - there's a hell of a difference between the Portugese league and the Premiership. A good playing record with one club does not demonstrate his abilities to work with a demanding owner and sort out the egos that appear to bedevil Chelsea at the moment and replace essential elements of an ageing side. It would be less of a risk with Hiddink
It was always a good bet. But... I don't remember Mourinho winning the Champions League with Chelsea. I don't remember Hiddink even getting to a final and he's likely to be some DoF type bloke. I know nothing of the Portugese league so his achievements there are lost on me, though they do seem as impressive as Rafa winning La Liga twice in three years with a club that wasn't Barca or Real. So we shall see what the pudding tastes like when Chelsea eat it as proof.
Then again; Mourinho went straight from Porto to Chelsea and did absolutely fine there, and Villas-Boas reminds me of a young Mourinho.
IF it happens then we will wait and see - but not with bated breath because I'll be paying more attention on how we continue our progression. But interesting times though
Villas-Boas will know lots of the players well from the first time he worked under Mourinho at Chelsea.
Is this a first - we've had 11 posts without the usual suspects butting-in to tell us we are all wrong and United would do something better. Or am I speaking too soon?

oh how the mighty have fallen... from poaching up and coming managers who have just won the champions league to poaching up and coming managers who have just won the europa leage. Chelsea are starting to get a reputation as a poor employer and if things don't go right with Villas-Boas (which could happen with him being an inexperianced coach) then I can see him getting the sack. Chelsea have gone a step backwards imo as they do not have the depth and their owner does not have the patience to let the manager build a dynasty,
i rate VB but I also think he would need to get around the ego problems too. Remember some of the players will probably be older than him, if things go wrong, they could very easily pull that card. I hope not, I would like to see this current porto squad with Vb next year in the champs league, I think they can make a really good run.
I agree; I think Porto play some really good football, and it's nice to see a team play non-defensive football and be successful (Barcelona aside), Jose Mourinho has a habit of playing defensive, I'm glad it hasn't rubbed off on Villas-Boas.
That Porto side is loaded with players that could all go to any of the top teams. Falcao, Hulk, Varela, C. Rodriguez, Belluschi, Joao Moutinho, Fernando, Rolando, Fucile, Otamendi ( who we were looking at a while back btw!!). All internationals and all top players for me. Would like to see this core together and really surprise some teams next year, I will be pulling for them. Plus I remember falcao from his River days and thought he was mint then, I bet River wish they had him right now in their dire times!!
