Anyone still clinging to that small hope? There's a chance, albeit a slim one, or have you just accepted it, and want the season over? GUS Poyet believes that if it had not been for Sunderland’s cup runs this season, they would have been dead and buried in the Premier League long before now. Asked whether the runs to the Capital One Cup final and FA Cup quarter-finals had fatally sabotaged the Black Cats’ hopes of survival by distracting and extending them, the head coach insisted it was exactly the reverse. “I think because of the cup competition we are where we are – still in with a shout,” said the Uruguayan, following last night’s 5-1 drubbing at Tottenham. “If we had not been on that cup run, I believe we would have been down already.” http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...down-already-but-for-knockout-spark-1-6547959 GUS Poyet accepted, in the wake of a harrowing 5-1 defeat to Spurs last night, that it would now take “a miracle” for Sunderland to stay up. “I’m honest and I’m realistic,” said the Uruguayan after the most miserable of returns to his former club. “It hurts. It’s not nice. “But there’s no place to hide and I feel for the fans. “When you look at the table and how many games we have left, I think we need a miracle. “We need something which will have to be a shock – because even I can’t see it coming. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/poyet-sunderland-need-a-miracle-now-1-6547930
Everton would be the last nail. I've got a ticket. We've won 6 out of the last 7 I've been to including a win over Everton at home last season.
Accepted it, glad Gus isn't beating around the bush. Wouldn't mind him having a go at the players too. He's made mistakes as well let's see if he learns from them. I'm actually looking forward to next season regardless of what div were in. Can't stand to watch another season of pissed camels lumbering around a pitch
We have been down all season tbh, only briefly smelling life above the bottom 3 for a millisecond before settling into an almost season long bottom 3 position. Gus worked miracles to even give us a chance but the players have soon reverted back to form. There is no doubt that had we pushed the boat out when Martin was sacked to get in Poyet instead of numb nuts, we'd be better off today. We will be relegated though on the legacies of Bruce, Mon AND PDC. All 3 have set the rot in although Gus must have a long look at his team selections and January recruits. Only Alonso looks like he has any ability for me, with Vergini, Scocco and Bridcutt pretty dire.
We are down, and for me i will follow safc whatever division they are in. If poyet keeps his job i look forward to a fresh start, with a new breed of players. Obviously he will have to keep an experienced spine to the team,so there will be a lot of ins and outs. Bournemouth here we come.
Just on my way down to cancel my season ticket which I have had since the SOL opened, can't see any hope after last night, just pick the games next season and hope for the best.
The club have played a blinder with the automatic renewal. Its a lot easier to sit back and do nothing than make a hard decision. Im renewing but next season is crucial for if I renew again. If I dont see improvement then it might become picking and choosing games for a while after that. Who knows......
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet says "it would be a miracle" if his side avoided relegation from the Premier League. The Black Cats remain bottom of the table after their 5-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Monday. Sunderland are seven points behind 17th-placed Norwich City and have two games in hand on the Canaries. But Poyet, who took over from sacked Paolo Di Canio in October, told BBC Sport: "Sometimes the table doesn't lie. It would be a miracle to stay up." He added: "It's very hard to take, it's not nice. "I imagine how hard it is for the fans, but there is no place to hide. I am responsible because I am in charge, and I accept full responsibility." Poyet signed keeper Oscar Ustari, defenders Marcos Alonso and Santiago Vergini, midfielder Liam Bridcutt and forward Ignacio Scocco in the January transfer window. The Uruguayan guided the Black Cats to the Capital One Cup final, which they lost to Manchester City at Wembley at the start of March, as well as the FA Cup quarter-finals. However, Poyet's side have continually struggled in the league and have picked up only one point from their last seven top-flight matches. The club's remaining seven league games involve them playing Everton, Cardiff, West Brom and Swansea at home, while they face trips to Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United. Poyet believes his side need to win at least four of those matches to have a chance of securing Premier League survival. "I am very honest and I know where I am. It doesn't matter if it was five minutes ago or if you asked me on Friday," added the former Brighton boss, who had not managed in the Premier League before this season. "I am realistic, when you look at the table and the games that we have got left about how many we need to win. "I think we need a miracle. We need something unique, a shock because if not I cannot see it coming."
I might be a pessimistic bastard but I'm also a realist. I honestly can't see any way back now like. Seven points adrift, where the **** are we gonna get them from? And that's without Norwich picking up any more. We might get three v Cardiff, West Brom & Swansea but after that, what??? If/when we do go down I can see us doing a Boro & being down there for 4,5 or 6 years. Di Canio was right, the club is rancid from top to bottom.
That long mate? I can see a couple or so seasons. But no idea of what the squad is gonna be like for next season, and there's some decent clubs in that league.
Just a feeling I've got Comm. Some of the most culpable ones need to take a ****ing long look at themselves. And I'm primarily pointing the finger at O'****e & Larsson there. O'****e captain? FFS!
